SICK. That sums up my reaction of the movie. Completely sick. And from now on Karan Johar is on my list of Director, whose movies I refuse to watch. I kinda tolerated him in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, was shocked in a ghastly Kal Ho Na Ho and then a pathetic thriller Kaal.

I mean, what was he trying to say in KANK? Was he trying to create a Silsila with an alternate end? Here we get two couples, spouses in each of them are indifferent to each others feelings and blame their partner for their loneliness (!!). Now, Mr. Broken leg (SRK) meets Ms. Weeeepy (Rani, in a disgusting role and performance), comfort each other and their infidelity results in breaking their marriage. They meet years later to marry.

I mean to make a preachy film on relationship, you need to have a strong premise, dialogues and conviction to sell the idea to the audience. Here, you have none. The dialogues are crass, “Nangi ladkiyon ko le aana”. Yucks. I thought era of bad dialogues was long gone with Kadar Khan. And come to think of it, such dialogues are by AB Sr.

Bedroom scenes (Abhishek & Rani), (SRK & Rani) were badly shot. Long kissing scenes are pathetic. The movie is marred by poor conviction of lead characters themselves, who alternate between loving, caressing, their spouses and their other love life. The audience is definitely confused.

And will Karan Johar stop from bombarding sexualities of gay men in his movies? Somebody else’s sexual preferences are nobody’s business. I understand that. Will KJ also take note of it rather than screaming from the rooftops?

Rampant use of glycerine in recent memory, no direction of story line depress the audience. Some of the techniques have been deployed by KJ time and again is the use of firangs at dance clubs, soccer match and as pedestrians.

However, there are some spirited scenes which perk up audience interest, like the one where SRK chooses to give flowers to Preity Zinta than Rani – both crossing the road, SRK’s scenes with son to give up Football and learn Violin, the Ballet scene where both the couples engage in showing affection to their spouses and the one where Big B asks Rani to leave AB Jr. Ditto is for fantastic art direction by Sharmista Roy, Camera work by Anil Mehta and costumes by Manish Malhotra. I think one can watch the movie again (oh no!) only for the uplifting work by these very talented guys.

The screen glows with Kajol’s special appearance as also of John Abraham. Karan Johar makes a wink and he’s gone appearance too.

Preity Zinta (superb) and AB Jr. (rocks) in an avoidable enterprise.

My verdict: Stay away. And can Karan Johar give me a refund please?
