High on hype, high on substance as well! That sums up KANK, directed by Karan Johar. One has witnessed romantic sagas since time immemorial. But KANK chaters a new path .It is far more bolder when compared to its predecessors.

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' is about two couples; Dev Saran (Shah Rukh Khan) and his wife Rhea (Preity Zinta), and Rishi Talwar (Abhishek Bachchan) and his wife Maya (Rani Mukherji). The couples are not related but circumstances bring them together.

The initial reels are easygoing. The storytelling is ordinaryand the pace is just about okay. But the film gathers momentum once srk fall in love with Rani. And the narrative gets even more interesting when they part away.

The best thing about the film is that it catches you unaware at several paces. Just when you start thinking What next, comes up an incident that surprises you completely.

The post-interval portions are even more captivating than the first part. This part focuses entirely on the relationship , with subtle doses of emotions attached to the characters so that they don’t become one-dimensional.SRK’s sequences with Rani and Preity are brilliantly executed. The climax is unconventional, but just right keeping the graph of the film in mind.

KANK also works because of the exquisite chemistry between its two stars, SRK and Rani. Both these actors make Dev and Maya come alive and stay with us.Hundreds of films deal with forbidden love but this one really makes you care about the characters.

If at all the viewer feels slightly letdown, it’s on one count - the post-interval portions tend to get a bit too heavy, with no relief in the form of light moments

As a writer Karan Johar deserves a standing ovioation. He has come a long way since KKHH days. Cinematography is mesmerizing.

SRK enacts his role to perfection. A controlled performance, the actor takes to this complex character like a fish takes to water. He underplays his part with admirable ease.

Abhishek surprises you with a performance that is a cut above the rest. He seems to have prepared for the character and it shows.

Preity Zinta doesn’t have a meaty role, but she makes her presence felt .WAtch that vital scene where she slaps SRK.Rani is outstanding. Amitabh is effective.

On the whole, KANK is Karan JOhar’s finest work. A stylishly narrated tale, the film will win plaudits and reap a rich harvest at the box-office for its daringly different content. Its truly the movie of year.
