Karan Johar tread a dangerous path this time around -the theme is extremely bold - the writing and execution is what makes the difference. Had it not been for mature handling by the immensely talented director , there would’ve been a stronGpossibility of the result becoming one boring exercise. But, thankfully, it’s not!

Director Karan Johar score on several levels. One, heneed to be complimented for opting for a bold theme - a theme that has been untouched on the Indian screen so far. Two, the dramatic moments so vital in a film like this -are the mainstay of the film. The confrontations scenes stay in your memory even after the show has concluded.

While the first half of the film has its share of enjoyable moments, the drama actually takes place in the post-interval portions. He has handled the emotional moments – between SRK and Rani– brilliantly and your heart does go out for them.

The sequence where Rani and SRK spills the beans to their respective partner, right till the climax, is proof of good writing, good direction and good acting.

Another asset of the film is its music. While practically every song is a treat to the ears, their picturisation is not just lavish but very stylised.

The Rock and Roll track is the best song, picturisation-wise, while the title track is a gem, lyrically speaking .

Cinematography is in keeping with the mood of the film. Dialogues are very natural. The sets and the overall look are first-rate.

Abhishek has handled the dramatic and emotional moments with flourish. He is an exceptional throughout the film.

SRK’S emotional sequences are so powerful that they are bound

to melt even the stone-hearted. Rani is remarkable all through the enterprise. Handling a complex role with complete understanding, KANK ranks amongst her finest works, at par with some of her accomplished performances -- Paheli ,V-Z and Black.Preity Zinta, despite her ill-conceived role, is a treat. Amitabh is powerful KANK is a film that grows on you.
