What a Waste!

Quitting while at peak is never easy but that's how you could do justice to yourself and others. We remember Steve Waugh for his outstanding career as a cricketer rather than for his failures for his last two matches. The same could have been applicable for KJ and SRK but Alas!...

Mr. KJ's fascination with K doesn't seem to ever end and he came out with yet another sugarless candy floss this season. However as in business, a film ought to be more than just a "the-set-was-always-fun-with-all-the- pranks” project. There needs to be a proper process and proper inputs to go into that process to get a relevant output but KJ thinks a “script” is not something he should have a look at before considering a project. The movie is a disaster in the making, a waste of time for expecting fans, probably a loss making bet for most distributors and quite mercifully an end to the KJ+SRK+RM/PJ era.

Extra marital affairs was a good subject to choose in first place but it needed to be backed with a strong script and restrained acting. For once, SRK has been unconvincing for even the most diehard fan with his style now too old fashioned considering there is fresh blood with John, Abhishek and other new kids on the block. It’s really funny to see a 40 year old acting so immature with an irritating quack every once in a while. The man looks tired, overconfident and has a for-granted attitude towards his work. He has relied on past successes in believing his attendance is enough to mint money. Sadly, the kids have grown and they find alternate and crossover cinema much more sensible.

Rani Mukherjee is certainly not star material although she has planned her career well to be in the right movie at the right time. Her character in the movie is even more flawed. She is not sure she should be marrying in first place and once she is married, she contemplates opting out of it for no good reason. Abhishek and Preity are much more tolerable but Mr. KJ and Mr. SRK ensured they have only a walk-on role. Amitabh Bachchan has performed well in the limited scope he can avail.

The script is very mechanical; it depends more on sequence than on sense. Also, it treats the subject like a clichéd understanding of broken relationships. The banner says ‘A love that broke all relationships’….Dumb! Was that even love, guy meets gal, meets again after 4 years, gal is confused and guy is pissed, both are mindless and so fall in love, how realistic! I did wonder at a time in the hall what could be one reason that would make Rani like SRK over Abhishek!

The story was also weird in parts. Abhishek always seems to be trying to get close to Rani while she keeps running away and one fine day she decides she needs to try Fetish to save the marriage. Man, he would have been more than happy if she had made one discreet gesture instead.

I am happy about just one thing. The fate of the movie will make KJ stop wasting glycerin on mindless projects and he would be forced to think hard before he comes out with anything next. Like I said earlier, it’s best for him to quit this stale genre at this time and venture in to new, realistic and more vibrant cinema.
