INTRODUCTION -- THE FEELING

I was originally extremely excited to see Kaal. I mean come on, Vivek Oberoi and John Abraham -- two of the best looking guys in Bollywood. Plus, the previews hinted that we'd see John Abraham without his shirt on... so that was a plus.

Besides, tigers, national parks, shahrukh khan as a producer... I THOUGHT it would be a very thrilling roller-coaster-ride sort of a film.

But it's happened again. Just as in many movies, the media and preview coverage set up way too many expectations for the public -- and the movie ends up being somewhat of a disappointment.

Don't get me wrong, Vivek Oberoi and John Abraham still look their hottest yet, and Lara Dutta and Esha Deol are certainly very nice but skimpy looking in their very very short clothes.

But was there any surprising ending? Any twists? No, we knew exactly WHO was going to die, and WHO was the killer from the first HOUR of the film.

The Plot Summary

Vivek Oberoi and Lara Dutta, as well as two of their friends, are tourists whose car somehow gets stuck around Orbit Park.

John Abraham and Esha Deol are a researcher and a photographer respectively, who have come to Orbit Park to investigate the rumours about the increased number of ''tiger-killings'' in the film.

Their cars bump into each other, and they all end up deciding to travel together in Vivek/Lara's car. Then the driver of John/Esha's car gets killed, and we're left with a tiny tiny bit of suspense.

Basically, everybody who bothers to not follow the rules of the park immediately gets killed. The driver was alone -- so he got eaten by the 'tiger'. Sajjid (I don't remember the actor's name -- but he's one of Vivek's friends) gets killed because he was shooting game in the core area. Vijay (again one of Vivek's friends -- but I don't know the actor's name) gets killed because he stayed in the water too long.

And meanwhile, the group meets Ajay Devgan who's character name is Kali Prataap Singh. Basically he sort of lives in the jungle.. he knows all the rules, shortcuts, and he is kind of freaky.

Since John is a researcher, he knows approximately what tiger killings SHOULD look like -- and the killings don't match his thoughts. So he gets suspicious of Vivek Oberoi ... and supposebly the audience is supposed to get suspicious of Vivek as well. Not a chance.

Anyways, the killer ends up being Ajay Devgan, who's kind of crazy. But we suspect that all along, because Ajay Devgan's the only survivor who's messed up in the head.

So basically it's a pointless pointless building-up-of-plot.

The Character Acting

Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi and John Abraham do a good job. Esha Deol and Lara Dutta just scream, sob a lot and pitifully ask their respective boyfriends if they can go home. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Songs

Overall, not bad -- but everybody's wearing much too skimpy clothes, and Nassa Nassa and Tauba Tauba are sort of repetitive.

Once again, Shahrukh does an amazing job in the Kaal Dhamaal song, but the girl he's matched up against wears way way way too skimpy clothes. Like, more than usual :) It's as if they ran out of cloth at the scene.

Overall

An okay movie, but not as good as it looks from the previews. If you like seeing Vivek Oberoi and John Abraham then go watch it. If you're going for the plot DON'T BOTHER! There are no surprises!
