I can also still remember a bucket of chicken from KFC being a rare treat as a child. I came from a family of 6 children and I suppose we looked like a pack of starving dogs fighting over it. We would always look for those buckets at family gatherings and try to make sure we were in the front of the line or there wouldn't be any left. There's nothing worse than getting your taste buds ready for some crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside 11 spices added chicken and getting to the bucket to find nothing but crumbs.
I have always loved KFC's food and considered it a treat to eat there. There are 4 KFC's where I live and one in every town around us so you have no trouble finding one. Recently my brother read an article on Mr. Sander's the founder of KFC and in this article it told of how he retired and received his first social security check and decided he couldn't live on such a small amount. The only thing he considered he had of any value(talent wise) was his recipe for fried chicken that everyone loved. So he packed and set off in his car and started visiting restaurants trying to sell his recipe. He lived in his car while doing this and was turned down 100's of times but even hearing no again and again he knew that if he kept trying eventually someone would say yes. And they finally did, the rest of the story you know. He took much pride in his chicken and it seems that while he was still alive you could always count on quality food.
I'm afraid that's not true today. In the last 5 years the food quality has dropped. The chicken is now very greezy and the side items are very poor. Along with the food no longer be very good they now charge very high prices for it. It used to be a very good meal at a low cost and now it is just the opposite.
I almost never go to KFC anymore because I have been dissapointed by their food one too many times. However about 5 months ago I was very pregnant with my 4 child and craving KFC. My husband went to get me some and I must say that my mouth was watering at the thought of actually biting into that chicken. I was very disapointed to the point I almost cried.
The chicken was so greesy that it was dripping greese. The biscuits were flat and hard, the slaw was spoilt, and the mashed potatoes tasted like water and for all of this it was about 8 dollars for food that you couldn't eat.
I am very sad at the operators of KFC for failing to keep the food the quality of Mr. Sanders dream.
