KEM Hospital is one of the best government hospital I have ever visited in India. Although far less clean and more crowded than the more swankier and of course more pricier private sector hospitals, KEM has some of the best doctors who are dedicated to their fields and have stayed back to serve common man despite the lure of a greener private pastures.
Its Orthopedic department with an indoor strength of 280 patients is probably the largest in country and offers a wide variety of service matching global standards. It has one of the countries few dedicated research center in clinical pharmacology and the pediatric ICU here would stand up to any other global center.
In nut shell I would quote one of the residents'' Donot expect fresh bed sheets that are changed everyday, donot expect toilets that have deodrants, donot expect all windows to have curtains, but do expect a courteous nursing staff, expect some of the finest residents at your beck and call 24 hours a day, expect surgeries to be more sucessful than most other swankier centers, and above all expect people who really care for you no matter how rich or poor you are''
