The English sure have strange tastes. Baked beans toppings on pizza, vegemite yeast spread on toast. Dandelion and Burdock, Lilt, and other weird sodas. Horlicks is a malted drink made of wheat flour, malted barley, powdered milk, sugar, and whey. It is made by SmithKline Beecham, famous for its Ribena blackberry concentrate (and soda). The taste and texture of Horlicks is like mixing white glue and malt sugar into your milk. It is a bit thick, and goes down like a pinch of Kaopectate. You have to keep mixing your drink to keep the malt suspended in solution, otherwise you get this thick glop in the bottom of your glass.

The one thing that makes Horlicks different from other drinks, is that Horlicks is a health drink. It provides a modicum of vitamins A, C, D, B12, plus calcium, iron, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, and dietary fiber. Horlicks is probably better than most of the designer health shakes on the market, which are usually composed of fat, sugar, and flavor.
