Straight out of the heart of Maharashtra in Western Indian, Vada Pav has an iconic status in India., more so in Mumbai and is called the "poor man's food", but these days even the rich and famous can be spotted eating it at Bombay's (Mumbai) numerous roadside food stalls!
While foreign fast food brands are vying for desi followers. This common man's delicacy has won it. And the brand leading this race is Jumbo King - its give the vada pav a twist . Well then, what is the twist ? There are a lot of them . They provide a range of different flavours . Some like Schezwan, chole and cheese are very famous and are hot picks for frequent travellers on BEST buses and trains, moreover so because they are strategically located at various bus depots and railway stations all around mumbai. And they are totally worth the bucks.
My stint with this brand started six years ago when my friend introduced me to a new jumbo sized vada pav stall at Andheri Station. "Consumerism is reaching poor man's stomach!!!", I wondered. I ate one, and it was enough for the whole duration I sat in my classes. Well, that was new for me, I used to eat atleast three of the smaller versions. My friends thought that something ws seriously wrong, had my apetitte shrunk. I told them that I was somehow satisfied with the one vada pav I had; My friend joked ." What size was it, JUMBO?" , I said yes, they all started laughing. After my lecture got over I took them to the same stall I had eaten earlier that day. They loved it too. Since then Jumbo King has been a part of my life.
I have been a frequent visitor at this stall in andheri , where the proprietor keeps a jumbo king cheese vada pav ready every day at 8.00 pm. I love all the flavours , but i'm a regular cheeser.
I love a lot of things about the brand , but there are certains things that I have began to loathe - like adding sides , which is by far uneccessary because, the vada pav itself is one. The price of drinks is another factor which acts as a bummer.
In the last 6 years the brand has constantly evolved to add many new delicacies into its menu. Some were block busters, while some flopped . But the brand name was always on the rise, it still is and will continue to be.
