I but electronics from various stores all the time. This was my first experience buying a 32" LCD TV at Jumbo Electronics in Ambience Mall, MG Road, Gurgaon.
I had specific requirements, I wanted a Full HD, at least 3 HDMI ports and a swivel stand. The salesmen, who knew a lot about LCD TV's, encouraged me to buy Sony compared to Samsung and LG. I was very convinced about the features of the Sony LCD and I finally did a check on the 3 features I wanted. I was shown another TV of Sony which had a swivel stand. When I purchased the TV, I was told not to open the box till an engineer arrived at home.
When the engineer did arrive and we wanted to install the TV, it had no swivel option in the stand. I called the store back and asked them to explain this - they said the model had recently changed, the ones on display in the store had swivel stands but not the one given to me. I asked for a exchange or a refund and that's where the troubles began.
The store was clear - they did not have a 32" sony TV with a swivel stand. They were happy to change it with an LG but I wasn't interested in that. They would not refund the amount under any circumstance.
Now I'm stuck with this TV. Maybe it's my fault, I should have gone into more details and opened the box to check the product before buying. However, considering the reputation of the store and the fact that I was shown a swivel stand, I thought it fair to accept their words that the box would only be opened by the installation engineers.
Why is it so difficult for large stores like Jumbo Electronics to understand that they are not losing a sale but a customer. In the next 6 month, I will be buying 2 more LCD TV's, a home theater and a few more electronic products. Will I buy them from Jumbo or ever recommend them again? Naahhh. and just for not wanting to refund for an incorrect sale made by them.
