I never knew Julia Rice or Julie Powell for that matter, had it not been for this movie. These two females, even now, are part of some smart Alec's fantasy to me. Julia, portrayed by Meryl Streep, comes across as a happy go lucky person with her own moments of lonesome and grief (though few and far) while Julie (the director's actor, Amy Adams), is a pleasant female who isn't happy with her job and loves cooking and looks upon Julia Rice as her IDOL (inspiration to be precise).
Julie takes up the task to cook, recipe made famous by Julia child for a year. And here the fun begins. Yet, another woman (perhaps women in this case), is a delight drama..and when it ended with 'time after time' track, I was in no condition to get up from my chair. I was longing for more.
It goes without saying nobody can have enough of Meryl Streep, and rightfully, Meryl doesn't let her fans down, but the surprise comes when you see Julie aka Amy putting up a fantastic show as well.
If Meryl is in a movie, it is taken for granted that all her co-stars would be living under her shadow, but Amy gives us a performance, not her best though, to live when you are in theater.
I am not a great cook, and the entire theater full of older women, did give me a little panic attack but after watching the movie and mouth salivating, I had to run to a bakery to have my share of chocolate and cookies.
And I guess, that should be enough to tell you the impact this movie can have on you. So if you love food and Meryl, this one is a full packet of surprises for you.
