If you need to know about the geography or history of a place, best way is to read a booklet of the airline from that country which will normally write some info about the country. My idea is to briefly write a few thoughts about the place I visited during my work-not as a tourist…but on work. Jordan known normally as The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This is not one of the most enjoyable tourist destinations in the world, but one must visit this place if one has a chance and aptitude for knowing more about this wonderful place that we live in.
Very rarely you meet with so hospitable and sweet speaking people. There is a feeling that this country is poor – may be so in economic sense- but in their behaviour they are one lot who can be proud of their very nice behaviour…
Language is indeed a problem here…you will meet people who speak English , but still difficult to communicate…to make them know what u want really want to know and same happens when they reply. .Helping every one seems to be in their blood, and what more do you require being happy.
With the weather almost typical of middle east and little bit of Mediterranean, winter is very nice time to be there. This year almighty blessed Jordan with snow and people really enjoyed this time.
Great feeling when u drive around,the country… suddenly up the hill and then in the valley and then again top of another hill, and one need to wonder how these people were managing with their very old cars / vans/ trucks etc till recently. Now u can see so many new cars and other vehicles.
Jordan valley is green – not lush green as in Srilanka or Kerala. There are many farms, yet the variety of vegetables is less. Indians living here have a little bit of problem to over come , sure they will overcome these over the years. However, if the government , its ambassador takes a little time to see what is happening, then there are plenty of opportunities and India can really make Jordan a business ally.
Jordan has long history of educating its population . It has some the very good educational institutions in this part of the world and in spite of fewer resources, children are seriously encouraged to go to school , colleges and professional institutions.
Aqba, Dead Sea, Petra etc are good for one visit. After all, how will you form your opinion about something unless you have a chance to experience it.
The population is made of about 60% refugees, who are permitted to live here and work and allowed to live in this country as long as they wish. Many of them believe that Iraq was very friendly to Kuwait and it was USA which tricked Iraq to invade Kuwait etc…They also think that Osama has no capability to demolish WTC tower and that is also a drama by USA to destroy Afghanistan. When asked why Iraq should have invaded Kuwait even if USA tricked it, they felt that Iraq made that mistake of trusting USA. Why I felt like writing this is just to throw a little light on the thinking of this lovely people. To know their mindset, particularly so now since we all have been seeing Gallup poll results over CNN.
In nutshell, if one travels to that part of the world it is good to make a visit to Jordan too . And it will not be too costly to stay in Amman. There are five star hotels and hotels catering to all the tastes. However, there are also apartments available with full service at very reasonable rates say 30 to 45 U.S.D including American breakfast.
Safety and security are very good and so one need not be too afraid of travelling to interior areas. Spend about 3 to 4 days there and sure you will have a relaxed holiday.
