''Honey Honey''

My hairdresser told me, ever so kindly, that my hair was distressed (due to too much swimming and ten years of gunk for dancing exams and shows) and that I needed to change shampoo. This was nothing new. Almost every time I get my hair done, the person snipping away tells me this. First it was “don’t use Pantene as it coats your hair in plastic” then “never try Wella” (for some reason I’ve entirely forgotten) and most recently “Neutrogena Clean and Clear will ruin your hair for life”. As you can see hairdressers appointments are always fun occasions for me….. Still, last time, instead of telling me what not to use, Little Miss Hairdresser came up with the solution. – baby shampoo. It was, she said, the only thing soft enough for my hair to take.

As I’m sure I’ve said before, I like brands. This means that although she said baby shampoo, this for me meant Johnson’s. Since I don’t have blond hair I didn’t need the Camomile version, and since I had the generic yellow stuff as a baby, I went for the Honey one.

Facts:

According to the website (johnsonsbaby.com) this is a

Shampoo Moisturising Formula with Honey and Vitamin E enriched with natural honey and Vitamin E. Containing the NO MORE TEARS® formula it is extra mild and as gentle to the eyes as pure water, leaving hair soft, shiny and easy to comb. It will not irritate baby's delicate skin and eyes during normal use (hmm, while we’re on the subject, what is normal use? And would it irritate during none normal use whatever that might be?) and is clinically proven to be gentle and mild. Soap-free and alcohol-free, it is also allergy- and dermatologist-tested

How to Use (as if you didn’t know) :

Wet hair, apply shampoo, lather and rinse. Repeat.

When to Use

During bath time, use to clean baby's hair and scalp. (silly me, I never knew shampoo was for, well, cleaning hair)

Ingredients :

Water, PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Trideceth Sulfate, Glycerin, Disodium Lauroamphodiacetate, PEG-150 Distearate, Sodium Laureth-13 Carboxylate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Fragrance, Polyquaternium-10, Citric Acid, Honey, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate), Quaternium-15, D&C Brown No.1 and FD&C Yellow No. 6

Phew, well at least they are not doing the “aren’t we posh” aqua thing as so many firms are. Out of those I understood only a handful, namely “water, “citric acid” and “honey”. It sure takes a lot of ingredients to make something as mild as pure water…..

My Experience

I like this shampoo as it does leave my hair baby soft (and not as distressed as previously). It lathers well so you don’t need much and the honey means it smells great – the only big problem being that there are no accompanying products so the smell is often masked by whatever conditioner etc you do use. It’s nice and cheap, especially from Tesco who often have it on offer, and lasts for ages. It’s available in 250 ml and 500 ml bottles, from Boots, supermarkets, chemists etc.

I think I’m OD-ing on Johnson’s at the moment – I have the wipes, the lotion, the oil and now the shampoo. Tesco even sent me extra vouchers in their last mailing, and instead of being for bread, chocolate o magazines as normal, they were for baby products. Am I on my way to becoming a 19 year old Johnson’s baby? Maybe, but who cares? I love the stuff :-)
