Although I was never an ardent history reader, I love to see people enact history and put it forward for the masses in a less formidable form. Movies about about kingdoms, wars, betrayals and love appeals to me. I have tried never to miss any of the hollywood flicks of that sorts - from Benhur - Kingdom of Heavens. When I heard of a movie on Akbar made in bollywood, I couldnt resist the temptation to check it out.
Although bollywood is doing really well, I still have my reservations and I am sure that it still has a long way to go before it can bring the hollywood effects on screen. Jodha Akbar strengthened by conviction.
What I liked in the movie:
1 . Camerawork at many places is very commendable. At many places it comes very close to the
hollywood level,
- A few background scores speciallly the Jaasn e bahar(if I am not wrong) is soothing to the
ear.
- The romance between Jodha and Akbar is portrayed really well. The chemistry between the two
looked great
- A few fight scenes of one to one with Akbar. Specially the last fight.
What I didnt like about the movie:
- Length of the movie(3 and half or more): I understand that the akbar story cant be told in a
short time but I think it would have been great if they would have just made the whole movie on
one aspect of the great man's life rather than trying to hastily touch upon different points. Also, I
am sure some of the songs could have been cut short and more valuable things be added
- I am not a technical film critic, but there was something missing. Many fight scenes seemed
like the scenes of the old Ramayan, specially those in the beginning of the movie. It lacked
something technically .
Whatever be the case, I never knew too much about Akbar and after watching the films I sure wikiped about him:) .
I would rate it much below Lagaan. But I am sure there are lot of room for improvements.
A one time watch if u have enough time at ur hand. Dont worry if u miss the first couple of frames, the better parts comes later.:)
