This is a story of love and heroism set in 16th century Mughal India
when Akbar ruled the most part of the country and Rajputs were confined
to some parts of Rajasthan.Hrithik Roshan, who plays the character of
Emperor Akbar, faces difficult times since his childhood but triumphs
over all of them. Finally, a point comes in his life when he has to
decide about marrying Jodhaa(Aishwarya Rai), a Rajput princess and
daughter of King Bharmal. This unusual royal marriage and the ensuing
romance between Hrithik roshan and Aishwarya Rai forms the crux of the
story.
PERFORMANCE
Hrithik roshan enacts the character of Emperor Akbar with consummate ease and perfection. His intensity and sincerity makes the Emperor Akbar memorable.Aishwarya rai was good in the character of Queen jodhaa.Other actors provide able support to the main cast.
Gowarikar has done a brilliant job in the individual scenes, but the midas touch of Lagaan or Swades is certainly missing. The film is a visual treat and Gowarikar has successfully captured the grandeur of Mughal era.His direction was brilliant.Rahman's music is suberb, especially the number " Azeem o shan "is very good. But editing could have been crisper.Other production values are grand.
In spite of superlative performances by all the actors, the film does not look a coherent whole. It has grand sets, opulent visuals and great style but lacks substance.Gowarikar has failed to recreate the magic of Lagaan or Swades.
The film moves at a precise, steady pace, so if you have no patience for details, this movie is not for you
