Well, Ji Mantriji is the new series that has come up in the Indian Television. Indian media is also famous for copying stuff or legally making Hindi adaptations from the original and famous english adaptations. Anyway, this is a shot by shot duplicate of Yes Minister, which used to be aired long back in Doordarshan and then in cable.
Yes Minister was a favourite series of mine which I used to thoroughly enjoy but well the Indian version is an okay one.
The positive aspect of this series is Faroukhe Shaikh who is well known for his talent in the film industry as well as the TV industry. He has the main role of the minister.
The minister's arrogant and superior assistant is played by Jayant Kirplani who has come back to the media world after a long time... he is again one of the good actors.
The rest of the cast are a mixture of old and new from the TV industry. So you can afford to watch and enjoy this series if you havent watched the original series. I personally think that its an okay spoof of Indian politics. The script is also quite good.
The negative aspect is that its a copy...or lets say a legally adapted series from the original one ... right from the graphics to the design of the set ....the characteristics of the characters.... well its kind of funny and you are bound to compare with the original series... I have been informed by Vinayjs in MS that it was BBC which was responsible for the hindi adaptation of the series but even so, they could have done a better job with this series.... but its not all that bad :). As I wrote before, if you have not watched the original you will be able to enjoy this series ...
I would settle for the original one any day. It is a classic comedy series ...
