Jhoom with the song, Not with the movie!!

The movie depends on the song. I bet had they cut the song from the movie the reels would be reeling under 10 and Amitabh is religiously, thoroughly, mindfully and tastefully WASTED in the same. The song was too peppy for him to perform and in fact needed much more in terms of choreography, props and sets, rather then that railway station.

Ok! you read those lines, I just rambled my way to review writing and especially reviewing Shaad Ali Sehgal movies. I think the next time we might not even need one. I thought Saathiya was neat, BnB grind was slow and dumb but Jhoom is roarariously faulty and thanks to an intelligent 2nd half with naughty moments, skin show and of course smooch me-smooch me scenes, it might just work.

Let me get to the high rises of JHOOM**:

Ruffy Bhai played by Piyush Mishra, rocks and how? Pheew timing, dialog delivery and raw tone. Bobby Deol for his foolhardy self in the 2nd half, Abhishek Bachchan to quite an extent and Lara Dutta to look hot and beat Preity Zinta to her last resort as well.

Heck the title song. If you credit the song to be the soul of the movie then hand over extra bucks to Shankar Ehsaan Loy to create a good enough platform of a song to platter it across to the entire length of the movie. Esp the start and the remix version in the dance competition rock. Bol Halke Halke is crafty, however other songs are just inclusives, meaning nothing but more time. Gulzar needs thumbs up for lyrics in both the main songs.

How do you like a movie like Jhoom?

Either you have tonnes of patience to give it everything in terms of your tolerance to allow the Director to come out with the USP and make the point across or you go off to sleep in its entirity. In that terms Shaad Ali takes entire 1st half to open the door to the real film, its only on the bank of 2nd half that you start feeling good about the film.

It has been his repertoire to build a movie slowly and that too at his own liked pace. Well there's nothing wrong with it unless you have got a serious story to tell but when as an audience, I am aware as to what are the proceedings it's like little too much time kill. Heck the first frame Thukral and Alvira Khan share screen space, it makes me think about their affair. It's alrite but the build up is dumb and slow. Songs, confrontations every thing is just to pack the 1st half.

Thanks to the Jhoom baba, ABsr. who comes at every pounce of an opportunity to wastefully dance and make the fast song slow, I was almost entertained. The problem in romantic comedies is they dont give you space to slow down and look back especially with multiplex era and quicky films coming on the age. The first half is a serious case of typical Bwood dreamer. Meetings, songs, flowers blah blah.

However don't miss out on good Cinematography by Ayananka Bose, infact its not how those foreign locations are shot, hell they are always clean:). Its the way he has shot Delhi, Agra and few monuments. Especially the way the camera zooms in on Taj from a pool of water is classy photo shot. No wonder it should be voted as the 7th Wonder.

2nd Half is the movie to be precise, twist in the tale, funny situations and ofcourse the Dance competition which comes before the climax just fuels up the film. Something like which happened to Bunty n Bubly in 2005 when Kajra Re, Kajra Re did well for it.  Vaibhavi Merchantdoes well to make the quartret dance well.

*Performances in a order of liking them, in this case this is my review and my rating applies.:).

*Piyush Mishra as Ruffy Bhai, he was absolutely funny and timed his dialogs aptly especially with the raw desi touch. "Half Plate Seek mein Full Ghanta laga riya hai".hehehe.

Abhishek Bachchan as Thukral is good throughout but why does his looks have degraded even from the Dhoom2 times, he only looks presentable to a mommy in his jacket, glares else no.

Yash Raj have something against him to show him that way IMO.

Bobby Deol as funny Satvinder in the 2nd half was good and boy he has some comic timing to work well.

Lara Dutta looks hot, speaks a lot of cuss for my liking and plays her part well.

Preity Zinta lags behind the performance race, she did her work out to cut the flab of the KANK days but its not up the thermometer to challange Lara. Simply a mass opinion shared, the one I shared the audi with:)

ABsr. is WASTED. PERIOD.

Shaad Ali hasnt improved and infact he keeps firing an average bullet with his movies, I think its the songs that are somehow saving him so far else this one barring some good moments isnt their in terms of story or characters.

*Cticize's Quote: "Watch it and get up in the 2nd half for some fun filled moments and good tunes or cinematography else for good content, this is a dumb film to look through."

PS: This review comes out from a WiFi zone of a Cafe' and from a Mobile Device called N91 8 gb of my friend, so expect errors and more errors. Alright.

PPS: Nice reviewing after some time, next one is quickly on the cards.
