Could this have been little better? Yes.Yes.Yes.Yes.

By ‘this’ I mean ‘plot’.  Two strangers falling in love is not a bad idea. But we expect them to have a sense of immediacy and sanity when it comes to confessing their love. And yes, going little berserk is also fine, but what if they are not ready to get rid of the ‘madcap’?

Zoom barabar zoom bores you.  Because it stretches too far and the script is not good.

Set in England, the movie begins with a campy conversation between Riki Thukral(Abhishek Bachchan) and Alvira Khan(Preity Zinta) at a train station where they are waiting for a train to arrive. They reveal that they are waiting for their respective fiancés(Steve Singh – Bobby Deol and Anaida – Lara Dutta) who are incidentally traveling in the same train. What they tell(and what director shows) us about their fiancés is something which makes you believe in somewhat outlandish glory of love.

But then, that is not real. They don’t have anybody by their side. They have actually fallen in love with each other.(How come? Don’t ask! Even the write/director will not be able to answer!). They of course do not admit it and we are dragged to the second half where they meet each other with the fake fiancés in a dance competition and to the finale they get each other and the fake fiancés also find true love in each other.

The twist was in fact little interesting.(May be that was a result of the brag that we have to bear before!) But it did not last even through the little better second half. The musical second half somewhat elevates the spirit as you are out of the wonderland created in the first half and watch the players on the turf.

Bobby Deol does a good job in second half. Lara Dutta is stunning, super super sexy and is the one to watch out for. She clearly takes over the others and makes you to expect more from her. Abhishek and Preity, sadly, do not impress. Well, its ok with Abhishek, but what happened to Preity? Do I sense the beginning of elder sister era for Preity?

Amitabh Bachchab emerges from nowhere in the weird avatar and sings and dances. Why? Don’t ask. And refer to the bracketed line above.

Production values and art direction of the film are extra ordinary. But then you are always assured about it if it is a Yashraj movie. What scores in this failed venture is Aki Narula’s costumes. They are weird, saucy but definitely different and eye catching. He deserves an applaud for his daring.

Shaad Ali’s Bunty Aur Bubbly was a fun ride. And it was an insanely beautiful story.

Jhoob Barabar Jhoom is just insane. In the true sense of the term.

Cheers!
