Once upon a time in a small town of Bombay, I was walking back from office with a severe headache. I was banging my head on my briefcase as I walked down the road. Lill' did I know, people were staring at me with worried looks. But I didn't care what people did around me. I kept on banging my forehead on the poor breifcase. Suddenly there was silence all around. I was frightened for a while. Had I reached some deserted island? But then I thought I had not crossed any ocean, so how could an island come in picture?

I looked around. A silent theatre stood looking down at me. Three guys stood there laughing at me. The board on which they stood, flashed as follows:

Now Showing:

Jhankaar Beats

I said to myself. Hmm!! As it is, everything has gone terribly wrong, why not go in and have a quite nap? So I did for myself a favour. I bought myself a ticket from the queueless counter. The guy at the counter didn't have change for Rs. 500/- I picked up my briefcase which I had hold between my legs and started the head banging activity all over again. Then I stopped after a while and looked inside the window. The guy had disappeared with my money. I turned around to find him standing there frightened and with the remaining change in his hands. He stared towards me with terrorised eyes as I walked inside the theatre.

After a while, I noticed that the advertisements didn't tend to stop. I was growing insane. I again looked towards my breifcase, lifted it up and was about to bang it on my head when a Certficate from the central board of Films flashed on the screen. I sighed a sigh of relief. So atlast I can go to sleep. But then something wierd happened when I noticed a name 'Juhi Chawla' on the screen. My eyes couldn't just wait.

The movie started:

We meet two guys Deep & Rishi singing their hearts out to win a contest called 'Jhankaar Beats'. But as soon as the song got over, I came to know that I wasn't the only sad soul here. There were two more. Deep & Rishi have been trying since two years to win this contest, but in vain.

I felt a lill' bit relieved after watching that I wasn't the only frustrated man on this planet. So I went ahead with the movie thus dropping my idea of having a nap. I met some pretty characters as the movie proceeded.

The Characters:

Deep: played by Sanjay Suri is a loving husband and an understanding friend. But at the same time, he is an ambitious guy. His dream is to win the Jhankaar Beats contest. He loves his wife more than anything but hates his mother in law on the same heights. And yes one more thing that he loves is eating. He works in an ad agency and plays music at nights.

Rishi: played by Rahul Bose is a practical character who suffers from the shadows of his own ego. He tries his level best to be as perfect as he can, but fails in his attempts due to his inability to be flexible with the circumstances. He loves his wife but now his marriage is going through bad airs of divorce. He wants his wife back, but his own ego stops him from appologising to his wife. Rishi also works with Deep in an ad agency and plays music at nights. Plus he is also fighting for his divorce.

Neel: played by Shayan Munshi is a modern day romeo haunting bus stops just to watch his love passing by. He has a single problem in life. His dad n' mom are looking for a girl to get him married, but the girl he wants to marry doesn't even turn a eye towards him. Neel is a talented guitarist so he joins Deep n' Rishi as a guitarist. And soon they come to know that he is their manager's son.

Shanti: played by Juhi Chawla is Deep's wife. She is a very sweet n' understanding woman. She stands by Deep's dreams of winning Jhankar beats. Shanti is keen to see Rishi n' Niki come back together to live a happy life.

Niki: played by Rinki Khanna is Rishi's wife. Niki is a socialite who has been fed up of Rishi's Jhankar Beats and his fad for the maestro R. D. Burman. And Rishi is fed up of her parties & social meetings.

Preeti played by Riya Sen is a girl next door sort of a character. Not much of her character dwelves in the movie. But her character does lend some of the light moments to the movie. Neel is in love with her. She is the one whom he has been following, but she doesn't even give him a look.

BOSS: is our Punchamda. He is still alive in Deep n' Rishi's hearts as he is in our hearts. Deep n'Rishi pray to BOSS whenever they go to play Jhankaar Beats.

After meeting these people in the movie, I felt as if my own life which I had been taking as a tragedy has in fact been a comedy. I had only forgotten to laugh at myself. So I said sorry to my briefcase for all the pain I had cast on her. And like a good friend, she did forgive me.

The Theme:

Jhankaar Beats is about normal people in normal surroundings trying to get the best out of life. They positively follow their ambitions in the awe of winning them. Love & Friendship give them the necessary boost they need to overcome their obstacles. And their loyalty towards their relations plays the backbone of their relationships. Three people in different stages of personal relationships sharing their day to day chores and a common objective. The plot has been handled with light touches of humour. And this light humour has the viewer smiling all the way through the movie. Many scenes have the viewer roaring with laughter and at the other times, a smile is lit up on every lip.

The Technical Aspects:

The director Sujoy Ghosh has handled the movie with a touch of a humourous feather. It's tough to believe this one to be his debut. Surely an addition in the league of John Mathew Mathan & Farhan Akhtar. Using his talents, he prepares a delicious mix of comedy n' emotions.

The cinematography by Mazhar Kamran is bright n' lively. It gives just the right mood to the movie.

Dialogue by Milap Zaveri, Sujoy Ghosh, Suresh Nair forms one of the basic aspects why one loves the flick. Dialogues are witty, tangy n' humourous.

The songs are hummable. Vishal n' Shekhar do give a variety to the ears. 'Tu Aashiqui Hai' is one of the best songs in the movie and has been picturised well.

The Performances:

Sanjay Suri, Rahul Bose and Juhi Chawla are outstanding in their respective roles. Sanjay Suri n' Rahul Bose share a perfect chemistry on screen. Juhi is adorable in her bubbly self. Her dialogue delivery is something on which I go bonkers. It's simply amazing. Shayan Munshi plays his part well. But he has a lot to improve. Rinkie have done a commendable job. Riya is nothing but a doll who comes on screen nods her head and lets the others do all the acting part.

A Lesson from Jhankar Beats:

The tiny depressions we face in our day to day lives aren't as serious as we make them to be.

The base of every successful relationship is honesty n' loyalty.

Better safe than worry. Use Condoms.

As the movie came to an end, I walked out of the theatre. The ticket window was open. A couple of guys were standing near the counter to buy tickets. They were quarreling with the guy at the counter for a change. I smiled to myself and made my way back home.
