Just wanted to share with you a scary incident which took place yesterday(08/08/2011).
I boarded a Jet Konnect flight from Chennai to Madurai(9W 2723, Plane : ATRV-500) at about 18:40. ETD of the flight was 19:05 hrs.
After about 15-20 minutes of boarding the flight, the Captain announced that they were having some trouble with onboard computer, which they were trying to fix.
Half an hour passed, and then we were asked to de-plane as the problem could not be fixed. We were asked to board a bus to be transferred to another plane.
After spending about 15 minutes in the bus, we were asked to board the same plane again, as the problem was “fixed”.
After boarding the plane again, the engines were started; the flight crew gave the safety instructions; then suddenly, the lights dimmed, AC went off and the engines stopped.
About 5 minutes later, the captain told that the “fix” did not work and we were to be shifted to another plane, which took off with the same flight crew, at about 21:00 hrs.
It was real scary to see the technicians carrying out repairs with just small flash lights to guide them.
The passengers were more concerned about not getting free dinner.
One of the passengers, a VIP, was kept updated personally, by the airline staff; however, all the other passengers had to be content with what they overheard. BTW, this gentleman opted to stay back at Chennai.
Does the DGCA monitor such incidents? I wonder why the plane was allowed to take off, after carrying out quick-fix repairs in the first place. Glad that the fan turned off while on the ground.
