Jesus Christ Superstar taught me things about the bible that I wouldn't otherwise know.
It shows the human side of religious figures that many of us see as only charicatures.
It has great music that covers a wide range of emotions. From the funky overture and title song to heartfelt songs like ''I Don't Know How to Love Him'' and ''Gethsemane''. I think it is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's best works.
One of the things I like best about the show is there are so many different ways to produce it. I have seen productions that stuck to the retro '70's theme and even a production that set the story in urban, present day America. I'm sure there are countless other ways it could be done.
If you can't get to a live theatrical production of JCS, I suggest renting the movie. It features a wonderful performance by Ted Neeley as Jesus.
