Think Ranveer singh and the image that pops up is Over the top action, dialogues, over the top romance, everything big and loud. Not that I am complaining, not at all. I like Ranveer singh, his passion and his dedication to his profession and craft. Love it.
When I first heard of Jayeshbhai Jordaar, I assumed it would as boring as the title just like millions of my fellow countrymen. Then came the trailer, boy was I surprised. naaah not all, ASTOUNDING, SPEECHLESS AND SPELLBOUND. The muted expressions, the downcast eyes, that spoke volumes of the true feelings, the acting here is definitely worth a national award if not an Oscar. I hope for once, the National award committee look at the performances and give Ranveer the award over some bootlicking actor for a film that failed to even get footfalls within a day.
Back to the movie, the apt repeated story of preventing female infanticide that is the subject and the crux of the story. But the story was brought alive by every single character in the movie, be it the subservient who eventually finds her nerve Ratna Pathak Shah, or the Male fascist panchayat head Boman Irani, or the docile looking Shalini Pandey who was a pleasant complement to the role of Ranveer Singh's Jayesh. Cutie Pie Jia a.k.a Siddhi aptly playing the role of Jayesh's daughter who steadfastly refuses to call them Mom and dad and instead refer to them by their name, but who shows the grit and muscle to stand up to her grandfather, every single frame was a joy to watch.
First time ever, a movie showcased the impact of indiscriminate killing of female foetus in the expectation of a male child, leading to an entire village of men remaining unmarried is a reality which is not very far in the future, if the right measures are not taken now.
Sadly, in an era of flying fists, flying cars and flying everything, a movie such as Jayeshbhai Jordaar, failed to impress the audience in the theatres. Unfortunate that we choose to sweep the very real issues under the carpet and focus on fickle issues that have no bearing whatsoever is another sad reality we live in.
I encourage and recommend a watch of this movie to understand a future that we will sooner than later live.
