Director: Manish Sharma [Muskaan fame]

Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Celina Jaitley, Hrishita Bhatt, Mahesh Manjrekar and Tiku Talsania

Another Friday ,another dud! That's the apt way to describe Jawaani Dewaani. What could've been a light, frothy entertainer runs out of steam as the story unfolds. The goings-on get predictable after a point and an overdose of songs only mars the impact further. To put it simply ,Jawaani Dewaani-A Youthful ride is one ride you do not want to be a part of!

Plot.......

Emraan Hashmi is an aspiring singer with huge ambitions of fame and riches. He’s quite a dumb, bumbling character who every time opens his mouth gets his foot into it and lands in a trouble. He is the type who waits to have things happen by themselves to help him reach his goals. To realize his dream, Emraan doesn’t mind resorting to manipulations, even if it means playing the game of love with someone....

Hrishita Bhatt falls into the trap of Emraan ,who is a daughter of Tiku Talsania, a very successful music company owner. They meet at a music launch party..He sees Hrisitha as a gateway to success and everything that he always wanted. In return gets everything for free - Hrisitha's hand for marriage and a music contract for her father's company.Things are going the way Emraan wanted, so it’s the party time . He heads to Goa to party along with his friends !

Another scene

Emraan comes across beautiful Celina Jaitley...Celina is a catholic Goan girl, who is one local celebrity, a famous singer. Even though she is glamorous and sexy, her thinking is very simple. She's a girl who doesn't believe in sex before marriage or other than being in love. But it strange that two[Emraan ,Celina] end up making love that is supposed to last for one long night! But turns out to be a lifelong commitment for Emraan after the underworld don, Mahesh Manjrekar forces him to marry Celina.

Poor Emraan finds himself in a fix.Whom to choose -Celina or Hrishita? His marriage with Celina means the end of his dreams of becoming a singer. But Celina sets him free from relationship! The two take divorce and Emraan heads back to Hrisitha to salvage his chances of future stardom. While the marriage date is being fixed, Emraan begins working on his album...

But Kahani mein twist

Celina enters Emraan’s life again. This time, she has been hired by Hrisitha’s father as Emraan’s co-star in music videos. Though he tries to maintain a professional relationship with her, its inevitable for him not to get closer to her. And this time around, it becomes much more than just a fling as he truly falls in love with her. He realizes that Celina is the girl whom he wants to spend his life with but on the other side there is Hrisitha who spells success for him.

Marriage between Emraan and Hrisitha, scheduled after two months is pre-poned to an hour's time by a shocked Hrisitha who learns about the presence of Celina in Emraan's life! Now Emraan has a choice to make and he has to do it pretty soon!Who will Emraan choose to be his life-partner? Does he sacrifice his love [Celina] or career[Hrisitha]? well ,its same predictable Bollywood saga..So keep guessing!

critical analysis

What to analyse? There is nothing in the film! To start with ,the plot [if it has any!] bears uncanny resemblance to TV series Baywatchbut sadly the magic of Baywatch is not there .Secondly ,the film relies largely on skin show, while the script takes a complete backseat. Clearly ,the problem is that it rests on a thin plot. The first half looks at the love affair, with skin show in generous doses. Unfortunately, the romance is so half-baked that it fails to strike a chord.Worse, the love story has been stretched to such an extent that it deviates from its main plot and ends up becoming a tragedy. Besides the love story, the fault also lies in the fact that the film has several unwanted comic sequences and portions that take the graph of the film downwards. To cite instances , 'Don' track'' is so irritating that instead of raising peels of laughter, it brings a frown on your face.

One does start investing faith towards the later part, when the story gathers some momentum when Hrisitha comes to about past of Emraan, but the sequences that follow do precious little to elevate the film. ....The conclusion is also abrupt and seems like a rushed job, with sudden change in Hrisitha's heart!

As a director Manish Sharma delivers a blank. The idea and concept he had was fairly interesting and given the backing of a huge producer[ N.R Pachisia] one would've expected something superlative.Pity that he has missed the target yet again after Muskaan [Gracy ,Aftab]...

Music is alright, although the impact is diluted thanks to too many songs in the film. Of the lot, the title track is the best – situation-wise and execution-wise. Cinematography is wonderful. It has a rich look throughout, which is perhaps the only plus point .Dialogues are well penned at places.

Performances

Emraan has been cast in a role that he has essayed before.Like all Emraan starrers, Jawaani Dewaani is embellished with skin show and smooches! He does this job to the perfection justifying his '' Serial kisser'' tag to the hilt..But it is when he opens his mouth to speak or uses his facial muscles to act that you look elsewhere....

Celina has an effervescent presence that makes her likable despite the silliness of the characterisation .But She seems to be stuck up in a Bikni mould, which was evident in Jaansheenwhile Hrisitha never seems to get a role to prove that she can act.

Mahesh Manjrekar's performance in ''Jawaani Dewaani'' could be called the worst performance I have seen in a long long time. Here he comes in comic role whichs lacks the desired impact. He plays a zany, goofy, lost and whack Don who supports Celina. Mahesh doesn't suit this role at all and he is made to act like a Buff.Cringe! He should take a break thus giving a sign of relief to poor viewers!

Conclusion...

Where does that leave Jawaani Dewaani?A complete letdown. The film is bound to continue the assumption that the first week of new year is jinxed ! A sure shot failure.....
