Its only 2 months since I got my Sony/Zee connection at home.
until then I was oblivious of the stuff going on since last 2 years on both channels.
How I missed them and some of my favorite shows and some favorite small screen people .Well, finally when I got the connection, everything on Sony/Zee seemed so different.
After some emails and chats from cousins and friends who were like ''wow you finally got the connection, so now dont miss Jassi serial, I decided to watch out for it.
Finally on the D-Day, I saw one episode and I was quite excited. The serial seemed to be all the time talking about Gulmohar and Lavanya i.e my name and I was blushing each time (what an idiot !) the lead characters took my name.

What followed later was a few more episodes and my name Lavanya slowly disappearing and some new names like Kohinoor and what not appearing.. but I was getting slowly hooked on this serial.
Why is Jassi serial so popular ?
is something I have begun to understand slowly now.
Jassi is played by a cute girl next door who has plain Jane looks and a lot of brains. She looks sweet yet has these obnoxious glasses and braces (but she doesnt need them) and wears badly stitched clothes but lives life on her own terms.
She gives ego-boost to a normal middle class girl of India and tries to promote the message that ''you dont need above average looks to be successful in life''.

The funny part of Jassi is the setup of the office. i.e Gulmohar
its not one of those boring IT offices with work-stations, pcs and conference-calls attended by geeks and spectacle- clad programmers nor a drab government office or a grim hospital/clinic kind of a place.
Gulmohar is a fashion house where the office looks funky and the characters look half-mad.There are a bunch of irritating girls who look like they are secretary plus admin plus telephone operator plus errand girls and what not.
Half the time they seem to be gossiping and giggling.
Then there is Pari. Overly made up, boisterous mannerisms, gaudy clothes with a permanent smirk on her face. Shes those ''''''ohh Gawd.. shes so irritating , wish I could slap her'' kinda girls Lol !! but she does her part well in the serial.
And then there is Maddy whos a woman trapped in a man's body.
Forever shaking his hands and body in an atrociously feminine manner, he is this ''not so straight'' (pun intended), stylish guy who happens to be the Fashion Designer of Gulmohar.
The prince of the kingdom is Armaan Suri. With Stunning looks, tremendous confidence and with a great dressing sense, he is truly believable as the chairman of Gulmohar. (from a lusty NRI in ''pardes'' to a dead brother who later comes alive in ''pyaar koi khel nahi'')...Apoorva has truly gone places.
ab aayega mazaa Mallika also does her part as an uptown girl in snazzy clothes, who rules the company and the chairman's heart. But she dreads Jassi and Armaans growing trust in her.
Others like Jassi's papaji, Nandu etc add spice to the serial with their comical dialogues and timely sense of humour.

STORY
Its a day-to-day story of Jassi's life in office. How everyone but Armaan and a few others treat her with respect and how she surpasses all mediocre expectations and carves a niche for herself in her office.
It also has romantic sub-plots of Armaan and Mallika who now seem to be fighting all the time. Pari as Mallika's spy causes confusions in all the business dealings and generally irritates everyone around.
Since Jassi is this average looking girl, what needs to be seen is how and when she transforms. The whole world is waiting for that transformation but I am NOT sure if the new and hip Jassi will evoke the same response as she does now.

PERFORMANCES
Everyone excels in their roles. Jassi captivates your heart with her presence.
Nandu is very cute as her friend and they ignite the screen together with flames of platonic love and innocent giggles.
Armaan as the sensible head of Gulmohar impresses with his looks and acting.Pari and Mallika do their ''bitch'' act and are good in their roles.
Rest of the cast look perfect and perfectly emote !

Tony Singh and Deeya Singh have always been giving us fresh and breezy serials with a modern feel to it like Banegi Apni Baat and Just Mohabbat.
Their characters look real, fashionable and interesting.
I have enjoyed their previous two serials and I like Jassi too..
The title song by Shaan....''duniyaa to uski hasi uddaaye, par woh hasti kehti jaaye...... '' is very catchy and apt.

But is it really true that Jassi Jaisi koi Nahin ?????
I am sure Jassi Jaisi koi EK to hai...
Atleast one girl who is 24 years old , who lives in Pune and who calls herself Mona Singh Lol !
Now thats Sony TV 's silly attempt to be Extra-secretive and another story alltogether Lol !
