It has been a few years since I visited Jaipur but it is one of the most memorable places I've been to. I was with my family and we hired a cab in Delhi and headed towards Jaipur. The main reason for our visit was to meet friends who live there but we had enough time to check out a few of the popular tourist spots also. The first thing that I noticed about Jaipur is how colorful a city it is. The streets are busy throughout the day as the local people move about in their daily routine. One of my first stops was at a local restaurant and I was very pleased with Rajasthani cuisine which is a bonus for those travelling to this part of the country. My next visit a day later was to Jaigarh fort which is perhaps the most famous tourist spot in the area. I decided to hire a guide for a reasonable fee and took a tour of the fort. I was amazed by the history and vintage beauty of this place and so were the other tourist who seemed to me to have come there from many different parts of the world. The fort also offers a panoramic view of the city and you can see thousands of house neatly organized into place from the higher vantage point. The next day I visited the wind palace or Hava mahal which is right in the heart of the city which I was told was where the numerous queens of the then king of Rajasthan used to spend their daylight hours. There were other places that I went to as well but I cannot recall their names but suffice to say that Jaipur is a historically rich and vibrant city which to a hill station dweller like me was a very novel experience. I highly recommend it to all travelers who are looking for a holiday destination with a little difference.
