Hi Friends
October 10th, 2011 came to us as a deeply shocking day when all the TV Channels were broadcasting the news of the sudden demise of our legendary Ghazal Samrat JAGJIT SINGH. It was shocking to all the music lovers in India as well as abroad.
Jagjit Singh was born on Februay 8, 1941 in Shri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. He had brain haemorrhage on September 23rd and was rushed to Leelawati Hospital, Mumbai. He showed little stability in his condition for a dasy or two but ultimately the cruel hands of death took him away from us.His wife, Chitra Singh remained by his bedside in the hospital for 15days and is now completely shattered after his death.
His father was the first person who felt that Jagjit Singh had a voice which could make him a great singer. He lernt first lessons in music from Ustad Jamal Khan and Pandit Chhagan Lal Sharma. He was brought up at Jullandhar from where he left for Mumbai in 1961 to try his luck in Bollywood films. But luck did not favor him and he came back . He returned to Mumbai in 1965 when his two ghazals were recorded."JHUKI JHUKI SI NAZAR." and " KAGHAZ KI KASHTI." mafe him famous. After that he never looked back.
He along with his wife Chitra recorded an album which proved to be very popular in music world. Both of the sang as a teram but in 1990 their young son Vivek was snatched from them by Yama, the Lord of Death . Vivek died in a road accident. Chitra stopped singing. Now having lost her loving husband she is alone and in deepest grief of her life.
A sad heart knows where it hurts.Normally people give up all their hobbies and occupations when one has lost a lonely son who was just budding in life. But Jagjit Singh had kept his grief to himself and carried on with his singing. One could feel the pain in him when he was singing his ghazals.Jagjit Singh sang poems and bhajans as well. He had his own style.
After the Division of India in 1947 the Ghazal Singers were left in Pakistan. When Menhadi Hasan and Ghulam Hasan visited India the Jagjit Singh also sang his Ghazals. His velvety voice and the hidden pain made him the Ghazal Samrat. He is not only the honored Son Of India but he is adored and admired all over the world.
He gve his voice to filmy songs also. Can anybody forget the songs of UMRAOJAN filmwhich made REKHA an all time Heroine. Her Birthday and that of Big B are 24 hours apart And both of them will be remembered even after them So also the Ghazal Samrat Jagjit Singh. The name Jagjit means WINNER OF THE WORLD and Singh means Lion. So like a lion Jagjit Singh would always be ruling the Ghazal Singing world.
His Famous Ghazals were:
1.YEH MERA GHAR YEH TERA GHAR
2.DUNIYA JISE KAHTEY HAIN JADOO KA KHILONA HAI

One can go to many more such hits and cab only sing himself because the ONE WHO SANG THESE HEART HITTING GAHZALS have already united with his Creator Lord.
I am shocked because I happened to know the family.Jagjit Singh had a house in Ludhiana opposite to our Architects Office. One of my female Draughtsman was their lone tenant. Chitra Sigh hated any noise and disturbance as they used to practice singing in the quiet of their home. So it is a personal loss to me.
LONG LIVE JAGJIT SINGH, MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE.
