Canada's ''Bad Girl''!

Originality:

Alanis Morissette recorded Jagged Little Pills in 1999. I bought this for my grandson who insisted he wanted it.

I wasn't so sure I should buy it because I heard she was an angry rocker! Since then I have heard it played many time.

The Tracks:

All I really want You Outta Know:

This song starts out as a poem to a boyfriend who has been cheating on her. I changes to sneering and cursing and the warning, ''Every time I scratch my nail, down someones back, (when I'm making love), you will feel it!''

Perfect:

This song sounded so sad to me. I can hear the rejection she feels. Under it all there is a folk ballad beat.

Hand In My Pocket:

I liked this song a lot, because it had a pop beat.

Right Through You:

The focus of this is on the man to has made her angry. It starts out slow and she ends it by belting/screaming. This was one song I didn't like.

Forgiven:

I believe that this song is about her relationships, with her parents, brothers, girl and boy friends. She sings this song with all the emotion and feeling, that makes this song another one I liked.

You Learn:

This is another song I liked because it has a pop and rock beat. Her voice is not the greatest, in his one, though.

Head Over Feet:

This is a love song. The lyrics are beautiful and so is her voice.

Mary Jane:

This song reminded me of songs the Mamas & Papas use to sing. It has a 60's California beat. Her voice is strong, and shows confidence.

Ironic:

Alanis tells about all the things that can happen when you don't expect them to. There are no smoking signs when you want to smoke, don't rain on my parad/wedding, traffic jams when you are late...etc. I liked the acoustic guitar parts, but not the yelling chorus.

Not The Doctor:

This song is about men who love their mothers. I think men who do, make the best husbands! In this song Alanis doesn't agree with me.

Wake Up:

I though Alanis was vulnerable and opened herself up to the listener. ''There is an underestimated and impatient little girl...raising up her hand.''

I Thought:

Her lyrics are intense, and her vocals are unique. Through this recording I could hear a bit of Sinead O'Connor and Jane Sibbery, yet she makes every song ''her own.''

The extremes in this album are compelling and one of the best I heard that year.

She is one of the new breed of rockers who want respect. She earned my respect by proving that she can sing, compose music, play the piano, guitar, flute and harmonica.

Alanis Morissette:

Alanis was born in Ottawa, Canada. She has twin brothers, Chad and Wane.

Her first gig was singing bubble gum commercials. She then appeared on a Canadian Children's TV program call Your Can't Do That On Television.

She is 20 years old, when this album was release. This is her 3rd album, (Altanis and Now Is The Time were her first two albums). I have also heard Swept Under The Rug and Unplugged.

Madonna's Maverick Company has signed her to a new https://alanis.com/main.htmlcontract.

More Information:

Maverick Records released it.

This album has one disc and I bought it for $10.00 CAD.

ASIN # B000002MY3

Awards:

This album receive six Granny nominations, (Canada's Music Awards), and won the best Female Vocal Performance and the Album of the Year.

I Think:

If you are under 40 and like this type of music I'm sure you'll enjoy this album. My oldest grandson did! If you are older like me, forget it!
