Yeah ..
She isn't in a time when the world of music is full of women waiting to drop their clothes just for their moment of fame.. this lady has stuck to the music she believes in.. truly this is what I call the mark of a genius..
Now some of you may not agree with me.. but allow me to explain..
As a school kid I had seen her videos on tv and thot she was plain weird.. as a college kid I was re introduced to her music by a friend, I fell in love with the it.
It was then that I realised that her songs are actually some of the best written.
Jagged lil pill is a collection of songs based on her personal experiences..
Its beautiful how she has put forth her anger and frustration and then made peace with it in the next album.. its as if one were to say... take out all the anger and hurt inside of u and then move on..
most of the ppl I know dont like her bcos they think she is just being too childish by harpin on and on abt ''issues'' be it interpersonal relations, world peace or just everyday life.. but I think it takes more courage and maturity to make peace with your life and accept it for what it is.. if some day you burn you might as well let all know abt it, mop all you want and get over it!
comin back to the album, the genre of music would be alternative rock.
the woman has written and composed most of the songs on the album.. my personal favorite is head over feet, you oughta know and ironic come a close second..
some of the songs that deserve a special mention are:
1)perfect- when I heard the song the first time I was stunned ( that is the only word that comes to mind) the song is roughly abt parent child expectations... its freaky and it has been put so beautifully into a song!
2) right thru u- this is a song complete with all the attitude you can put into it.. she has honestly put forth how she feels here.. right from what she thot her date thinks of her to how she wudnt ever give him a look if she got famous.
3) wake up- I think this is a wonderful song.. just listen to it ull know..
4) head over feet- this is my FAVORITE love song... if I ever loved anyone id much rather want to sing this to my love over and over .. its simple, its real and its more relevant.. its alanis at her best!
Her voice.... I don't have words to describe it.. when at this time you have all the equipments to modulate voices this woman sings just whatever way she feels like... she screams, she groans, she yells, she sings, she may sound like a 6 yr old... but she really does not care... and that is what appealed to me as an artist.. the confidence that her voice exudes is just something I have not come across any other female artist since janis joplin...
The catch abt her songs is that the music surely wont lure u( not as much really), but the lyrics will.. she is a poetess and a philosopher..
Cliched as this may sound but her songs are straight from the heart.. onto the cd..
This is what I think of her.. the album was released years ago.. but you can still get it in local stores.. just ask for it
