See now these are the kinda films I miss. Good clean entertainment, whole lot of candyfloss and so much humour that my eyes were watering and my tummy hurt.

OK OK I know that’s no way to start a review. But Jab We Met evoked a whole lot of ‘excitablility’ a la Kareena when I watched it(about 2 hours ago) and this review is going to be a whole lot of jumbled thoughts, so do bear with me.

The film gets REALLY interesting after the first 2 mins or so, when an excited ‘hyper-as-a puppy’ Geeta [Kareena] finds herself in an almost empty train compartment of the Rajdhani Express with Aditya [Shahid] and is annoyed almost right away that he’s so secretive, while she shares everything about her life with him over the next few minutes.(I think it’s a woman thing. We can’t understand men, and their need for space and more annoyingly, secrecy. But that’s the topic of a book I can write on the subject and doesn’t belong here, so I’ll get back to the review)

The first half of the film is about how poor Aditya manages to remain sane while he finds himself responsible for ensuring she reaches home to Bhatinda safe and sound.

The second half gets a bit more subdued, but only in comparison. And of course, leads to a nice sweet happy ending.

What works for the film the most is the outstanding dialogues, not to mention amazing casting. I couldn’t imagine anyone besides Kareena playing this role, and she’s done a fantastic job of it. I do suspect it’s also because her real life persona seems to be quite similar to the innocently self-loving character portrayed by Geeta [in one particular scene, she cheekily says ‘main apni favourite hoon!’:P]. Shahid, meanwhile, is getting better by the day. Somewhat of a mini-Shah Rukh Khan. He’s got the same kinda expressions, puppy dog eyes, an amazing smile and a heart-warming innocence. The kinda guy it’s hard to not like.

The film’s script is tight, and I don’t remember a moment where it fell flat or got boring. The music is nice and hummable as well. You’re bound to enjoy ‘Ye Ishq Hai’ and ‘Tumse hi’, while ‘Mauja Hi Mauja’ atleast made me dance in my seat:P

Watch it for sure! Full paisa vasool and a weekend treat for anyone who’d like to savour it.
