After many people had told me about Jab We Met being an amazing film and one of the best films of the year, I just really had to get this DVD when it came out. So I went down to my rental store and they finally had Jab We Met out. I rented it finally after wanting to watch it for such a long time. Well did it meet my expectations? Well read on and you will find out.
The film starts of with Shahid Kapoor(Aditya) He seems lost and confused like he has no will to live he has just been dumped by his girlfriend. He acts like he has lost something, he wonders the streets lost and confused, he then goes to the train station and gets on a train, that’s where he meets Kareena Kapoor(Geet). Someone different then anyone who he has seen or met, she ends up missing her train for him and that’s where there adventure starts. They go into a lot of crazy adventures and get to know each other. They share there stories and Aditya meets Geets family and attends a wedding being Geets guest. He then helps her run away from home so that she can be with her boyfriend, Geet being a Punjabi girl her parents are really strict and they will not understand about her wanting to be with this other guy. Aditya helps her run away from home and takes her to her soon to be husband’s house. They then part ways and say there goodbyes, soon after Aditya returns to his normal life full of confident he runs his business better then he has ever run it before his company is doing really good. He has changed; he has fallen in love with Geet. It’s her memories that make him be a better person and try his best. He remembers her all the time he is on cloud 9. But he knows that she loves someone else. Will Aditya Get Geet? Or is there another twist in the story? Well go watch it for yourself and find out.
There are many good scenes in this movie which make it interesting to watch, The Shahid and Kareena scene in the hotel where she tells him to burn his ex girlfriends picture and flush it down the toilets. Many funny moments occur during there adventure, Aditya meeting Geets family is also fun to watch and is very entertaining at times. There first meeting on the train is a great scene as well. But those where the good points and I am afraid people there are a lot more bad points then good points in this film. Well firstly the movie is a love story, but is it anything different? No its not. Is it anything better then you have seen before? No its not, what make the film fall flat at times is that they drag it way too much, you watch the movie yes and you don’t get bored most the time but you seem to not care about the two characters on the screen. You don’t care if they end up together at the end. Sure Aditya loved geet in the film but he never clearly showed it, we was not sure in the movie if Geet actually knew of his feelings after he meet her again for the second time. Did Aditya put up a fight to get Geet? No he did not, so to us it seemed like he gave up too easily. Yes he did it so she can be happy. But it never showed on his face he lost something. He gave her advice to go back to her boyfriend when he knew what he done and he gave her boyfriend a peace of his mind. Then suddenly her boyfriend wants her back, he then accepts the fact that he is right for her, and he tells her to go back to him? Also the film doesn’t give you that feeling to watch it again. Its something I can not relate to because if I was in love I would not act the way Aditya would. Also let alone I would never fall in love with a Geet. Maybe it connected to some other people because they can relate to it. Don’t get me wrong I love movies like this but the character development was okay but I did not care much for them and it came up to a point where I wanted the movie to end no matter who got Geet.
Some songs in the movie are good such as “Yeh Ishq Hai” and “Tum Se Hi”. But the others are just plain average to just simply bad. Also yes I don’t like the song “Mauja Hi Mauja” I never really did.
As to performance, Shahid Kapoor does amazingly well, not his best performance, but a sure shot amazing one and ranked as one of his best after “Vivah” and “Ishq Vishk”. He is much more mature in this, especially in the first half. He opens more up in the second half a great performance by Shahid Kapoor. This actor will go places, he has the full package, he has the looks, the acting talent and also he dances very well. As for Kareena Kapoor some say to me this is her turning point in her career and she gave her best performance. I don’t think so, she hams in my books like anything, she tries too hard and you can tell straight away she does. She ends up being really annoying and irritating. Maybe its her character, but yet again I like people who talk a lot and are full of life but she over did it and she tried just a bit too hard. She did far better being depressed in the second half and you did feel a bit sorry for her I will give her that. Otherwise it’s not her best performance in my view she was okay in “Dev” still not amazing in there. I still have to see a ground breaking performance from Kareena Kapoor which I still have not seen even after I watched Jab We Met. I stand by and still say Vidya Bhalan should be on the top this year with her ground breaking performance for Bhool Bhooliya.
As a couple Shahid and Kareena look cute at times, but I prefer Shahid and Amrita Rao much better. They don’t have to try and they just look amazing together. Especially in Vivah where you felt for both of them and Ishq Vishk, As for Kareena she still doesn’t have that one actor which I think she looks good with.
Overall I am disappointed; also don’t rate my review because I rated this movie low. I know a lot of members tend to rate reviews low as it doesn’t match with what they thought of the movie or if it doesn’t match what they rated the movie as. Rate this review to if it was useful to you, if you got enough information to actually make a decision to watch this movie.
The movie is nothing special and yet again people say it’s very different, I have one thing to say in what way is this movie different? It’s the same old story. Go watch it if you want some time pass for at least 1 hour, after the one hour you will not care much. Go watch an adventure that just never ends!
