Dedicated to the Late Yash Chopra

It was nightmare getting tickets for this film in London, went to many cinemas around my area but it was fully booked. Finally managed to get 7 tickets at a show and that too became house full after hours, but this film is a must watch for me and many other people as it is the late Yash Chopra’s last film. Will his last film be worth the hype, has he gone off in style? What has he left us with?

Samar(Shahrukh Khan) Is a bomb specialist in Kashmir, he has been nicknamed the man that never dies, as he has defused something like 90 plus bombs and he has never failed at it, he never wears a bomb protection suite, he gambles with his life almost every day to defuse bombs. Akira(Anushka Sharma) works for the discovery channel and wants to coverage the story behind Samar(THE MAN WHO CAN NOT DIE) After meeting him and also Samar saving Akira life while she is drowning, Akira finds Samar diary of his past and then we step back into time in 2002 and watch the love story between Samar and Meera(Katrina Kaif).

I would not like to spoil allot of the film, as the promo and trailers did not give much away with telling you what happens in the film. They have given very little away about the film so I will not spoil it for everyone here, I find it better if the less you know the better it is, there are allot of twist and turns in this film that is all I can say.

Maybe the story might seem familiar to you but all I can say is that it is also a very new storyline for me once all the twist and turns are finally over right to climax you will feel that you have just been schooled by the king of romance Mr Yash Chopra of what love really is.

I did enjoy this film, amazing locations, and great performances; however I stress you that it is by far not Yash Chopra’s finest work. I still rank Veer Zaara better than this film. However it is better than most the films we get today and that is saying something, is the film amazing? Well yes at certain parts but it is by no means a masterpiece. Being from London I thought they captured London very well and they did it right this time instead of films like Nameste London that lost the plot of London in my view, Kashmir looked beautiful on screen too.

Performances wise Shahrukh Khan done really well in this film as the lover boy and the Bomb specialist, very energetic and very good actining, not his best performance but either way he did really well, by far better than DON 2 AND RA.ONE which in my view were really bad films. Katrina Kaif I am not a big fan of, but boy she did impress me in the film, for once she acted and acted very well. But out of the ladies it was Anushka Sharma that stole the show for me, she was a supporting type role just like Rani Mukerji in Veer-Zaara but she delivered her best performance till date and I am not surprised in the promos she looked more bubbly and more energetic then Katrina, she did really well and plays the modern girl(who believed in sex first and marriage later) with total ease.

Direction of Yash Chopra was Brilliant, he is one man who can convey love on the screen like no other weather it is Veer Zaara, Darr, Silsila, Kabhie Kabhie. The man is the king of romance and he proved it with the film, As you may know the film is about Love.Love.Love and only love. He bought out the best in all the actors on screen.

Music wise, the actual music did not get rave reviews when first came out AR REHMAN and GULZAR combination seemed to be a bit of disappointment to many at first, but after watching the film the music will grow on you. At first I did not like Challa but it has grown on me and after watching the film it is stuck in my head, another great song is Heer and also the title song Jab tak Hai Jaan is really good. AR Rehman music is never liked at first hearing it slowly grows on you once you give it time. Special mention to the dancing scene before Ishq Shava between Katrina Kaif and Shahrukh Khan which was pure brilliant and amazing to watch they both fired up the screen.

There are some vulgar scenes in the film especially the romantic scenes in the song Saas, but it’s not too over the top and you can still enjoy it with family.  The film does drag in the second half and the pace does come to a standstill at some point and there was a point where I was thinking where are they going with this story, also allot of things happening the second half that you think it becomes unrealistic, but the film does keep you in lock in the last 40 mins or so, overall great first half slow start to the second half and great last 40 mins to clean it off. At the interval people where actually clapping and when the film ended everyone just stood up and clapped, never seen that happen in a cinema in London.

Overall Mr Yash Chopra says good bye with a great film, he will always be remembered for as the king of romance, but now that he has gone will Bollywood ever come up with such good movies like this? Well yes it ain’t a perfect film neither his best but by far better then the useless songs and films we get today, Yash Chopra you will be missed.Goodbye and we will remember you with your amazing films.
