A lot of films have proved that sometimes it’s the execution which works, not the content. A classic example is Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto. Abbas Tyrewala’s Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na is also somewhat similar-the story is not outstanding, it is the direction and screenplay which makes this movie a must-watch one! The funny and weird characters of this movie put on a smile on our faces and it remains even after the movie is ended!

The story of the movie: Jai (Imran Khan), Aditi (Genelia Dsouza), Rotlu (Karan Makhija), Bombs (Alishka Varde), Jiggy (Nirav Mehta) and Shaleen (Sugandha Garg) are the best buddies. Jai and Aditi are completely opposite of each other yet have the strongest bond between them. Aditi’s parents, Jai’s mom (Rachna Pathak Shah) and even their friends know that Jai and Aditi are made for each other. But Jai and Aditi that all this is rubbish and that they are just friends. And to prove this, Aditi decides to search a girlfriend for Jai and Jai will search the perfect man for Aditi!

Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na is a wonderful entertainer and the reason why it works big time is because the characters are real and one can relate oneself with them easily. You may have surely heard of people having similar traits, or you may have encountered people like them. Or there is a possibility that you may be totally like one of the characters! So don’t be surprised when you go to see this flick and the person next to you says to his friend “When I was in college, I was totally like Jai!”

The first half of the movie was outstanding! The goings-on were thoroughly interesting and funny and there was not a single dull moment. However, the second half tends to get a little slightly boring. However, the movie gets on a new high in the last 20 minutes. Many may find the climax clichéd and unrealistic, but it made the movie better and more interesting! Even the climax at the airport is highly applaudable!

Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na clearly reflects the current times or the changing scenario. For instance, Jai’s mom and his friends constantly telling him to buy a cellphone; or Jai openly revealing to his mother without any hesitation that he has a girlfriend.

There are lots of actors in the movie but the best thing is none of them have done overacting. The actors performed as per their character demanded.

Imran Khan gets a dream launch and he utilizes this opportunity fully and gives the best performance! His chocolate boy looks and his sexy voice works in favour of his character! Almost all the girls in the country have fallen for him and with his splendid performance, he is sure going to have a bigger fan following! Great work, Imran!!

Genelia Dsouza looks beautiful and has a wonderful smile and expressive eyes! With all these, she adds freshness to her character. She certainly gives one of the best performances of this year!

Karan Makhija as Rotlu gives the best performance in the lot. Next to him is Sugandha Garg (Shaleen). Nirav Mehta as Jiggy was totally funny! While Alishka Varde (Bombs) didn’t had much to do.

Ratna Pathak Shah was simply outstanding and likeable. Naseruddin Shah as Amar Singh Rathore was the funniest in the movie! The scene where he and Rachna used to talk brings the house down! Ayaz Khan as Sushant does total justice to his character. Pratiek Babbar as Genelia’s bro was simply awesome (He looks ditto like Ishant Sharma, doesn’t he?!).

Manjari as Meghna was perfect for her role. Paresh Rawal as Inspector Waghmare was hilarious! Rajat Kapoor was okay. Sohail Khan and Arbaaz are also there in guest appearances and they were totally funny; especially Sohail. I loved Sohail in Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya too and I just wish that I can see him more in comic flicks! Others were good.

A R Rahman’s music was as usual rocking! It’s great to see that the music maestro who gives music in period flicks can do an equally good job in a youth oriented flick like Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na! All songs were rocking however the two best songs are ‘Kabhi Kabhi Aditi’ and ‘Pappu Cant Dance’! The lyrics of ‘Kabhi Kabhi’ is splendid. No hard Urdu word used in it and its tune is just awesome! Manoj Lobo’s cinematography was normal and perfect.

Abbas Tyrewala is the winner! He wrote the story, script, dialogues, and lyrics and even directed the movie and did the fabulous job in each department (Reminds me of Imtiaz Ali!)!! The way he associated Rajput bravery with the story is remarkable! It is evident that Abbas is inspired from many youth love stories like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Ishq Vishk (and even Chalte Chalte) but though he comes up with an interesting product and certainly deserves a pat on his back! Waiting for your 2nd flick!

The best scenes of the movie:

1.    Imran and Genelia’s entry

2.    The songs ‘Kabhi Kabhi Aditi’, ‘Pappu Cant Dance’ and ‘Nazrein Milana’

3.    Jai’s mom talking to his dad (Damn funny!)

4.    Jai fooling Arbaaz and Sohail in the disco

5.    Aditi’s parents ‘interviewing’ Jai!

6.    Aditi’s bro conversation with Aditi and then with Sushant

7.    Jiggy’s birthday

8.    Jai at Sushant’s place

9.    The last 20 minutes (Just awesome!)

On the whole, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na is a wonderful entertainer which entertains thoroughly. It’s not a path breaking kind of movies. It’s just a timepass entertainer which touches your heart and will surely bring a smile on your faces. If you are a youth, don’t miss it! Go with your friends and enjoy!
