There is a lion sleeping in you; wake him up when need arise.  There is a horse ready to run but we hold the control.  There is a cat in us with all the doubts and uncertainties.   There is a donkey in us, a crow, a dog, a snake… you can name a lot of animals connecting human behavior.   It is only a matter of time and circumstance that we wake up the lion or a cat or to become a donkey.   How far we can prevent our original self from light?  How far we can hold the horse in us without action?

Jaane Tu is a simple friends-turn-lovers story.   Jai (Rats) and Aditi (Meow) (Imran Khan & Genelia Dsouza) are close friends one another.   Jai is quite attached to people and habits like a rat and Aditi is all curious, all energetic go getter, who will not tolerate any nonsense from anybody.   Jai's father (played by Naseruddin shah) was a brave fighter who was killed in a fight where Jai's mother made him believe that he was a person of non-violence and should not raise his hands against anybody to keep the promise she gave to his father.   Jai tries his best to keep these promises with his more than Mahatma kind behavior.   He succeeds in it to an extent as well.   Then how far an eagle grown up with chicken will behave like chicken?  To be a brave Rathore, he has to accomplish 3 conditions.  Will he do that?   In the meantime, the love story takes a turn where Aditi's parents suggest marriage between Jai & Aditi.   Jai & Aditi never considered this option and deny it.   Now they both determine to find a new partner to each other.  Meghna (Manjari phadnis) who refuses to see reality as it is enters the life of Jai and strong and flirting Sushant (Ayaz Khan) share space with Aditi.   How things will progress from here is to see in theatre.

The root of the story is taken (but well rewritten to give a completely new look and style) from Malayalam hit 'Niram (Colour)'.  It has shades of 'Khushi' too.   However, we cannot say it is a remake where only the thread is taken to present it in new style.  When Akshay Khanna invited Amir Khan to watch his Priyadarsan film 'Doli Sajake Rakhna' Amir made an observation to site the reason of the film's failure.   The hero lack justification for his inaction in most situations.   There is no real hindrance for the relation as well.  In Jaane Tu, I can see that these concerns are taken care of.  I will say Amir Khan was right, where in this film a story in the similar backgrounds and style been taken to new heights with few simple alterations.

The movie is completely jovial and a youth film.   Youngsters will love it.  There is sincerity of friendship and purity of love in it.  Courage and concern are well woven.  The need to live our dream is stressed.   Moreover the film tries to tell the story in a simple and pleasant way.  Even when the writer/director takes it to the level of an art film in few occasions the average viewer do not get disturbed, instead enjoy it. Full credit to the writer/director Abbas Tyrewala.   He also impress with his direction using his cast and crew.  Great work!

Imran Khan Rocks and rocks big time!   Calmness filled with strength he executed the difficult role to handle with ease.   Genelia D'Souza was excellent again.   The pairing was perfect.   Her spontaneity was restricted by the director in the second half but she did a fantastic job.   Manjari remind me of Rimi Sen.  She was good for a new comer though not outstanding.  Ayaz Khanwas impressive in his small role.   Nasruddin Shah was good in the guest appearance where the role of Paresh Rawal could have been better.  All in the gang of friends were good too.  Overall performance was brilliant!

Music of the film is very attractive.  With AR Rahman in action, what else we expect?  All impressive tracks well suits to the story and situations – youthful!  Pappu can't Dance, Jaane Tu and Kabhi Kabhi…I like these 3 tracks well.

Cinematography is very good. Choreography well supported the mixing of music and situations.   Editing could have been better, but no serious concern there.

The movie tries to take the middle path where art and commercial lines runs in parallel lines.  Brother of Aditi, his relations and his loneliness…all nicely explained with use of a mouse.   At the same time the director does not permit it to cost the commercial value of the film.   A good message was silently given away in between to those who observe it closely.   Mother of Jai and her relation with Jai, her worries are well depicted and how personal values overtake social values also narrated through this character.   The beauty of the characterization is that even small characters like Arbaz Khan and each one in the gang of friends…had there own story to tell.

However, the detailing of central characters could have been better.   Jai's character was not explained properly in some cases.  His character was shown as a highly attached one and his relation with Megha was too quick and the second part was faster.  It is not that easy for an emotionally over attached person like jai, as shown in the first part of the movie.   Similarly essential behavior of Aditi was taken back seat in the final 30 minutes.  The climax could have been different.  However, I think I will forgive these arguable objections considering the plus points the film brought to us.

To sum up, the film is very impressive in all aspects of entertainment and highly recommend, especially for youngsters.   There are good amount of light moments and I am sure you will be out from theatre with a smile on your face.  Films like this are the need of the hour.  Go for it!
