”Can’t I stay home?” an angry me asks. “No you can’t, you have to come to work with me!” says my mother.” “But there’s nothing to do there besides read!” says me. “You have a discman, right. Take it and you can listen to music,” says my brother.

Most of you must be wondering what I’m going on about. I have to spend my holidays im my mom’s work and it’s really boring so I took my brother’s advice and took my walkman along and some of my favourite CDs. And included in that was Jaan. What could be more relieving of a boring day than an hour and a half of Sonu Nigam. Now Jaan isn’t an hour and a half long, it’s about half an hour or more. Anyways, Jaan is a wonderful album with all songs being love songs(what else would you expect from Sonu Nigam). When I listened to the album some two weeks after I got it, I fell absolutely in love with it and can’t seem to make up my mind which songs are my favourite so to make a long story short I’d just say I love all the songs. Lyrics are by Faaiz Aanwar and music is by Nikhil-Vinay.

Tera Milna Pal Do Pal Ka

Now this song I fell totally in love with it when I first heard it, which is a few years back way before I actually got the album. I’d heard it on radio and I loved it but unfortunately they don’t play it much. Anyways, this is one of my favourite tracks. Strange, my favourites are always at track 1! This song begins with some piano notes then Sonu speaking in a low voice overflowing with feelings and then he starts screaming ‘oohohhohh ohohoh..’ which got me really crazy and which made me really like the song. Sonu does a bit of voice-cracking which I really love to hear him do and he sings really beautifully.

chaha hai tujhko chahat se zyaada, samjha hai tujhko mohabbaat se zyaada, yeh main jaan ta hoon, ya dil jaan ta hoon….tera milna pal do pal ka merey dharkhane churaye, dar hai mujhe pyar tera mera jaanle na jaaye, tu bata kis tadha jiya jaye haye haye…

My favourite parts of the song are where Sonu sings the notes of kistadha zeher yeh piya jaye haye haye and intehaar aur kya diya jaye haye haye

Jaane Kyon Main Tujhko

This song also begins with piano notes. I must say, I didn’t quite like this song when I first heard it ‘cause I was really crazy for Tera Milna Pal Do Pal Ka but I guess it sort of grew on me and I think it’s quite a wonderful, slow love song, which wouldn’t be complete without the piano because that is the soul of the song in addition to Sonu’s voice. There’s a part in the first verse where Sonu sings ho jaye shayad but he doesn’t really sing the shayad part he more like says it in a low voice full of passion.

jaane kyon main tujhko din raath soch tha hoon, jaane kyon main terey har baath soch tha hoon, yeh pagal pan hai, yah pyar hai yeh kaisa mujhko, khumar hai har pal ho tujhse meri mulaqaat soch tha hoon..

Deewane Hoke Hum

Every time I hear this song, it just transports me to another world. This is a slow, sweet love song and Sonu definitely is at his very best here. His voice is just full of passion that threatens to burst at any moment. The way he sings slowly, sweetly, and relaxed and he delivers the song with so much feelings that you can’t just help but lean back, close your eyes and allow the song to do its work! I can’t seem to find enough word to describe this song. It’s just really sweet!

deewane hoke hum milne lage sanam, jabse judi hai silselay, aankhon se ruth kar neende chali gayi na jaane kaise gul kile, na jaane kaise pyar hua, na jaane kab iqraar hua, ki apni baath ban gayi..

Jisne Merey Sapne Mehkaye

It seems as though the piano is the soul of the album rather than just a single song. It’s amazing from such a simple instrument and a few talented people and wham! We have a wonderful love song. Yet again Sonu does a wonderful job. He sings well and he is relaxed and manages to suggest it is nothing to sing this song, but all you’ve got to do is just love it.

jisne merey sapne mehkaye, mujhse milke woh kyun sharmaye, jaane uske dil mein kya kya ho, usko socho to kuch kho jaye, na jaane ab kya kare yeh dilki lage, mushkil mein aane lage hai yeh zindagi, yeh zindagi…

Tuhe Chuune Ko Dil Karen

‘Oh Priya!’ This song involves Sonu screaming oh priya…well I do love this song, it took a while to grow on me but I do love it. Somehow it reminds me ofChale Aao(Chanda Ki Doli) I don’t now why but maybe ‘cause in both songs Sonu was scraming at the top of his voice! The song starts with Sonu speaking then the piano and then him singing tujhe chuune ko dil karen, tujhe paane ko dil karen, jo baath merey dil mein chuuke woh ghaataaein ko dil karen.. oh priya... My favourite part is the musical interval between the first and second verse. It sounds like some sort of drum probably the tabla and it gives me the impression of some the lovers running through a green meadow! And I also love the way Sonu speaks at the beginning, he sounds so sweet!

Merey Dil Mein Rehnewaali

From ‘oh priya’ we go to ‘meri jaan’. I tell you, the guy knows how to express himself. You’ve just got to listen to his voice and you know immediately he knows what love is all about and what it is to be in love. You’ll instantly fall in love with this song. It isn’t that slow but it isn’t that fast either. Sonu seems relaxed and he sings beautifully. I can’t seem to find anything to describe it, but I’d just say it’s a sweet love song!

merey dil mein rehnewaali, mujhe apna kehne waali(2), dharkano ka ehsaas to hai,har ek lamha meri paas to hai, terey sivana chahat hai koi, na hai koi armaan..

Tu Har Pal Aane Lagi Hai Nazar

This is a slow love song, which seems to me to be expressing loneliness and the pains of love. That is not an exact translation; it is just how the song strikes me. This is one is perfect if you want to go to bed and you can’t seem to fall asleep, you can listen to this song and possibly it will take you to sleep because of the slow, sweet soothing music.

tu har pal aane lagi hai nazar, deewanapan iss kadar, main aksar dharta hoon yeh soch kar, deewanapan iss kadar, yeh kaisa tera pyar hai..
