Ishaqzaade is all about Hatred which turns into love which turns into hatred. This is the hatred between members of 2 politically warring families in a small town in north India called Almore.
Director Habib Faisal made a beautifully simple slice of life film like Do Dooni Char. Here he makes a bigger film, but is it better? No way. Habib Faisal disappoints big time with a story he seems not very comfortable with. Lets get to the story. The hatred between the families looks very forced at times in the 1st half. Parineeti Chopra is shown to be a very strong and independent minded girl, but her sudden change of heart for Arjun Kapoor looks totally unconvincing. The film is filled with silly twists and the ending falls completely flat. None of the characters touch you, as they are all flawed.
The music is the only good thing about the film apart from Parineetis performance. Arjun Kapoor looks the part by growing a stubble and all that, but lacks the confidence and expressions to play the part. Parineeti is brilliant in a weakly written role. Her role in Ladies versus Ricky Bahl was better and she had better dialogues too. Her the dialogues border on the insane and lack any spunk. Gauhar Khan in a small role is average. The supporting cast off new actors are ok.
Overall, Habib Fasisal proves the fact that talented directors like him get lost when making movies with big stars and big banners. Probably, they dont get enough creative liberty. Whatever the reasons may be, Ishaqzaade is a complete waste of time and money. 1 star for this one.
