Everybody knows about Maniratnam's ability to siphon talent to his films from genuine actors. He has done so on numerous occasions, examples Nayagan with Kamal haasan, Roja with Arvind swami, Dhalapathy with rajani kanth and mamooty, the list has some fine personalities to name. But IRUVAR is something different. The feel of this film is excruciating as demonstrated by the lead actors, Mohanlal and Prakash raj.
The performance of Mohanlal in this film as the veteran tamil actor cum politician MGR is unprecedented. Mohanlal's mannerisms and actions which he demonstrates in this film have been critically acclaimed as one of his best performance. Prakash raj who chronicles the role of Karunanidi is equally impressive. The ego between the two men has been portrayed with near accuracy and also their extra marital affairs. The women folk also did a wonderful job including Aiswarya rai who was stylish yet controlled, Revathy, Tabu.
The sound track by AR RAHMAN is one of his best. Cinematographic skills equals direction. In all, a visual treat for all who want to experience rather than see it.
