I have spent entire days trying to buy train tickets on the net, so I was ready for a long frustrating haul when I opened the IRCTC website today at the dot of 8 AM. To my pleasant surprise, I got my confirmed ticket from Mumbai to Delhi for 18th October within 5 minutes, without a hitch! Good going IRCTC! At last, the day we were waiting for!
The trains between two stations showed the station codes immediately. In the past, the site often got stuck at this point itself! The list of trains also appeared quickly, my selection worked, and I reached the booking form smoothly. The payment gateway function, usually so frustrating, worked without a glitch. I used the HDFC Bank gateway for VISA / Mastercard, which I find works the best.
I did not try out the fare feature, afraid to lose time. However, I did check the availability of seats before I did my actual booking. To my surprise, seats were available, despite Oct 19th being a holiday date. Everything else worked smoothly. No complaints this time!
