Ticket booking through IRCTC is not so easy as it looks. I often book ticket through IRCTC website and face many difficulties. I will describe my recent experience here. Recently I booked a ticket(PNR 6249145823, Journey date: 07.02.16) in 3A class in Sealdah-New Delhi Duranto Express(Train no 12259) via Tatkal service. I faced extreme difficulties while booking the ticket through IRCTC website.
Firstly, when I logged in my account, website became too slow and it was taking much time to load though I was using 3G internet connection. At the Tatkal hours each second is important.
Secondly, the most terrible moment comes when you select your train, fill in necessary information and go to make payment. After making payment, you have to wait anxiously stopping your breath to know whether your ticket is booked or not. I succeeded at my third attempt after two successful payment of total Rs. 10000. Not only this time. Same thing happened many times with me before. Failure rate in ticket booking after payment is greater than the success rate especially during Tatkal hours. I think they need to look into this matter and make necessary improvement to their server.
Thirdly, refunding procedure, I think, is much slow. They usually refund after three or four days. They should quicken the process.
Fourthly, the worst is their customer care service. When I was almost frantic to know whether my ticket was confirmed after each payment, I got no help from them. It was very urgent and important for me to know this. If I book another ticket and previous is also confirmed at same time, money for the one ticket will not be refunded as it is a Tatkal ticket. Their Customer Care no is not toll-free and you will be charged according to the STD rate. I was kept in waiting a long time and the line was disconnected. They should renovate the entire customer care service system.
Lastly, their website is replete with ads and so much other useless things. They are selling flight ticket, booking hotels and cabs so and so on. They are also using the website as online store for selling various commodities from broom to toilet cleaner. I think these are not expected from a govt. enterprise. They should focus more on easy, speedy and hassle-free ticket booking for the passenger.
