I booked a ticket from Bangalore to chennai for 2 passengers on 21/09(travel date was 26th Sep), just after 10min I had to cancel the ticket because I have been asked to come to office the coming week by my manager.since it was an e-ticket I canceled it online. The total amount paid was Rs710/-.
I hoped that after deducting the Tatkal charges of 150/- per person, I would get the remaining 410/-. But to my surprise IRCTC gave me a heartful 96/- refund
here is the reply I got from IRCTC
-Kindly note that if tatkal tickets are canceled 24hrs in advance of the scheduled dep of the train then a flat refund of 25% of total fare charged on ticket, excluding Tatkal Charges is granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets.
You have paid Rs 690/- as fare and in this the tatkal charges are Rs 150/-
so 25% of(690 -150)= 96.
Hence Rs 96/- is refunded to you. -
Even when I booked the tickets for 26th ON 21st.(5 days in advance.) and canceled the tickets in just 15min.Railway put a huge fine of Rs614/-
my question is can the Railway / IRCTC give explanation to its customers as to the breakdown for this amount. How they would justify such huge cost for cancellation
Is this the way the railway make huge profits.Shame on it.
