Rejoice! The Indian Film Industry is finally producing some amazing movies for the movie going public of India :)

The days will still be filled by the Salaam Namaste's and No Entry's ... but a new sunrise occurs with the advent of movies like Sarkar and Iqbal.

If you thought, like me, that the film industry is nothing but a bunch of money minded people hell bent on prejudicing India as a land of great big loving prosperous families or spoilt brats enjoying their lives ... Iqbal comes straight on and tells you - Hell NO!

Iqbal represents a down to earth story of a deaf & dumb teenager following his passion for the game of Cricket. A story that tickles you, awes you and dares to lift you up with a promise of smooth landing - in which it succeeds wholly.

Iqbal - a commoner, a handicap fighting against the prejudices of his father and the parasites that exists in the power seats of India (here, the cricket organizations) while simultaneously having to overcome his doubts and give a fight to hell against those who come between his journey to accomplish his dream.

The movie starts of beautifully and ends of in a heart pulsating, goose bumps evoking manner.

Kudos to Nagesh Kukunoor for producing, may I dare say, the best production of his career yet!

What separates the Iqbal's from Salaam Namaste's is the courage to look at ground realities rather than fantasizing about a world that does not exists beyond a few filthy rich folks.

The ability of a film maker to step beyond the realm of obvious and narrate a tale with subtleties is what makes a movie special, for me. Iqbal, as a movie, thoroughly accomplishes that rare feat with a gold medal round it's neck :)

Iqbal's recipe:

--> Breath taking cinematography,

--> Great soundtrack,

--> Excellent acting

--> Super story telling by the director

The story starts of in a village where a cricket crazy momma-to-be watches Kapil Dev weave his web of magic. Born - Iqbal, to the cricket loving mom, severely handicapped - but within a family environment where he thankfully has enough chances to capitalize on his dream.

Even though some scenes will be quite predictable...it's like being in a New Year celebration - you just wanna have fun!

There are moments where the movie will catch you saying ''where did that come from?'' - as it digs deep into the psyche of a common Indian father, mother, sister, brother or any other relation.

Star Cast:

Shreyas Talpade - plays the deaf & dumb Iqbal - a newcomer whose fine acting skills leaves you asking for more! Great work laddie!

The Makadi film star - Shweta Prasad - plays Iqbal's sister and once more proving herself as a skilled actor. Keep delighting us!

Naserrudin Shah - as a drunkard ex-cricketer, Mohit, who is brought out from his rot - to train Iqbal and help the latter achieve a dream that he himself wanted so badly. In Iqbal's success, Mohit finds his closure.

Girish Karnad - as a thoroughly believable cricket coach - whose main interest is in promoting cricketers with a fat piggy bank.

Other star casts, especially the ones playing the parents of Iqbal, provide suitable support to the main leads - making the film totally believable and inspiring to any common man watching an unfolding of an extraordinary tale of a similar fellow common Indian.

I personally believe that Iqbal's deaf & dumb character is a sort of representation of how Indian kids are made to grow up, without asking any uncomfortable questions, in restrictive families that discourage any sort of ''out-of-engineer-doctor-lawyer'' scope of career.

You want inspiration? A de-cleansing operation to remove the prejudices about Indian film maker's abilities? Or simply wanna spend some quality time?

Watcha waiting for???!! Grab a ticket to Iqbal - and watch the spin of magic that bowls you out completely :)

Cheers!
