The manner in which Jumpha Lahiri pens her nine tales is sure charming. Her power of observation is astonishing, her choice of the subject is commendable; and most of all, her approach is firm and heartfelt and that's what makes the book excellent.
What I liked about the contents were the factors of food, role of women, symbols of mal-adaptation such as driving. What I did not like about the contents was that there were not much concrete endings of the story, which conferred ambiguousness. All her characters are delineated in such a way that it makes every reader feel that the tale is set in the neighborhood. The most compelling factor seemed as the role of women, and the contrasts among them. Interpreter of Maladies is definitely worth it to read, and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a satisfying book of short stories. Highly recommended coz Jumph Lahiri would surprise you with the unexpected suject!
