Okay so I was getting bored, and I wanted to read instead of study my boring maths
problems for my MBA entrance exam. So I chose to read a book by John
Grisham (no new Tolkien or Robin Cook :( ). Anyway I ordered the book
without realizing that the book was actually based on a true story.
In fact when I found out it was a true story I was a little
disappointed, I thought it would be a boring little book on some
persons struggle against life or something like that. But hello
hello, it was much better then I expected.
The story that
John Grisham has chosen is that of a mentally disturbed, wanna be
baseball player, who is wrongly implicated in the murder of a woman.
The story on as a whole would not have been such a fascinating tale
had not John Grisham gone and told it. And that is where I feel that
John Grisham won me over, true that an innocent man was implicated in
a murder that he had nothing to do with, in fact the only reason he
went to jail was because there was no DNA testing available when he
was arrested.
I don't want to reveal too much of the plot,
because that as far as I can tell is piracy, however I really
feel that there is something impressive about writing a story as
honestly as John Grisham has, without trying to make a saint out of a
sinner, or the other way around, Grisham has spared no detail in
revealing how prodigal the central character was, he has gone deep
into the working of the American police, and I was surprised to know
that law enforcement the world over has their share of crooked cops
and biased juries. As the back of the book says, this is a story that
will infuriate you, and make you think if the American justice system
is any good.
I have kept up with Grisham over the
years, Runaway Jury was the s**t man, I mean that was something that
had convinced me that when it came to fiction Grisham could do it,
however reading this book has made me see Grisham in a new light,
impressive Mr. Grisham, for a change I don't mind saying I spent time
in reading this book (read my last review and you will know how bad
my last experience was). But anyway, I simply enjoyed reading this
book, and there were parts in the book, that made me feel genuinely
bad for the central character.
To sum it up Grisham has excelled
himself with this one, and I would like its a good effort, as always
no revealing the plot.
