Photos vs Brochures/Light vs Heavy

Let us declare one thing at the very beginning.Inkjets and lasers are two different kinds of printers and they should not be compared.

Having said that I would like to share my experiences with both inkjets and lasers.I have chiefly used HP printers. My first printer was a Wipro dot matrix printer bought in 1996.If circumstances permitted I would still be using that printer. It was very cheap to use and maintain.I first used an inkjet in 2000.I have nearly always used original cartridges and not opted for refilling.

Inkjet printers have some advantages. One they are cheap and can print photos. If you want to experiment with photoshop an inkjet is the thing for you. Why, even our local photo studio uses a Rs 11k inkjet printer. But the cartridges finish very easily and inkjets are not good for heavy duty printing. For that you have to buy a laserjet. And lasers are costly. They are costly and if you have to replace the toner cartridge you have to fork out nearly 4000/- each time. And these are the basic printerscosting Rs 7000.There are colour laser printers but they cost around 30000 and the cartridge would be that much costlier.Again if you want to buy a A3 size laser printer it is not available commercially and that inkjet printer costs Rs 25000.So even inkjet printers can be expensive.Actually if you are printing only a few pages each day and a few photos go for inkjet particularly colour ones. But if you print a lot go for laser. There is actually no option there.
