I got a call from IndusInd bank about Credit Card. I was told the card has been offered for free for employees from my organisation.
The Sales Exec visited my home for getting the form formalities and he confirmed that there would be no annual fees but there would be a joining fee of Rs.500/- which would be waived off if I spend Rs.5000/- within the first month of receiving the card. Since I usually spend a lot through cards, I accepted the offer.
I made a transaction of Rs 6k+ within the first month and I got the first month's statement with Rs.500+taxes as joining fee.
I called up the phone banking to get these charges waived off as I was not supposed to be charged for this. He told me that I should pay the charges for now, and they shall be reverted after 3 months. I told him that I would prefer cancelling my CC in that case. My case was transferred to Sales Deptt as they have powers to waive off such charges.
I got a call from the Sales Dept person who told me that he will waive off the charges, I asked him to send a confirmation through email. He sent the email with the words " Dear Sir, This is to confirm once you use our Gold card for Rs 5000 within 3 months issue, the Rs 500 attached fees will be reversed. As you already have used the card for more than Rs 5000, the fees will be reversed in the next statement."
Now, this person has brought down the time period to 1 month from 3 months. But, he failed to provide me an answer to my question: "If you are going to reverse the charges, why are you charging them in the first place?"
I only suspect that there would many such instances if I continue to being there customers. I might have to run after them for the money which they are not supposed to take.
I will be paying them only the amount I have spent and would immediately ask them to cancel my CC.
