I had opened an account in Indian Overseas Bank at Eluru while I was working in Andhra Pradesh for 2 years. The Bank operates well in cities though they have very few branches in the rural. Since this was the closest to my workplace, also the firm I was working with had their transactions via this bank, so I was compelled to open an account here.
Initially, I never had an issue and the transactions were pretty smooth. It was after 1 year that issues started to crop up. I had to transfer Rs.40, 000 into my dad's account for which the bank employees made me run to a different branch. I was surprised that such a small amount coudn't be transacted. The other branch which was 1 hour away from my place made me come on two days for finalising the transaction. It was such an annoyance to me and I can only imagine people who transfer in lakhs, what would be their condition!
After 2 years, I finally closed the account, for which again I had to travel to the main branch to get the appropraite documents signed. I personally feel, that if basic facilities are not present in the bank, such a bank shouldn't operate or close down its rural operations!
The town I was staying in, also had just kiosk of their ATM machine!
The state of affairs at the smaller branches is pathetic! And to make the matters worse, the staff is not in the least co-operative!
Last Word: Not recommending!
