I would like to make it clear at the start that my review is not on indian idol as I have already written on indian idol 1 and as the concept is same there is no point wasting space on it again and as far for three stars rating I like the programme so I gave it but through this review I would like to point out regional discrimination going on all three reality shows indian idol, sa re gama pa and voice of india
I have been thinking on this topic for a long time as I have nothing to do as I am on a months vacation and after which have realised that though programs are fun to watch but the channels are not interested in finding good singers and are only looking to increase their viewer base which is clearly evident if you look at participants profile and backgrounds in all the shows which mainly shows eastern india background and nothing else.it is sad that the mumbai city which fulfills many dreams and is the headquarter of entertainment industry finds itself poorly represented
The shows like indian idol, sa regama and voice of india conducted auditions throughout india with great gusto and brought the finalists to mumbai to pursue their dreamsbut they ignorethe host city mumbai itself which is evident from total number of participants from city which stands at grand total of 0 for indian idol, 2 for saregama and 2 for voice of india instead all the shows are loaded with participants from east with as many 10 paticipants for indian idol with whopping four from dhanbad and just two from northand none from west and south should be renamed eatern idol instead of indian idol, halfof paricipants in sa re gama and half also in voice of india.
It is clear that the channels have realised that the money power lies in the small towns as people passionately vote for the people from their towns which people from city of mumbai dont as very few have the time to watch regularly so they penetrated new markets like north eastern states wth participants like amit paul from meghalaya and prasant from darjeeling in which they have found success if a look at support forums for this two participants is looked into but I think it is unfair to ignore mumbai city which I am sure has many talented youngsters just to build viewership
