First time in 80 years of Indian Hockey, Indian team failed to impress the hockey lovers loosing to Great Britain failing to qualify for the Beijing Olymics.
Its scandalous to note that the national game being ignored since years and there is no one willing to come forward to revive the game from the current shambles.
Though Hockey is our national game and its played since 1920, its not given any importance, wherein Cricket started during East India Company and we have adopted the Englishman's game and we are singing lullaby for it and discarding the national game. What a Patriotic feelings!.
While several heroes of our Indian hockey being ignored or unrecognized, cricket players are treated as national heroes offered with hefty awards, endorsements, thus humiliating Indian Hockey Players. In Indian cricket, formation of IPL and sensing its benefits prompted several Bollywood stars to own cricket team thus trying to make quick bucks. Sharuk Khan who won several accolades for CHAK De INDIA, a Box office hit in which he depict a true dedicated Hockey coach have failed to distinguish the game or its sentiment, How does it matter to him, it was purely an acting. But offcourse he was a vivid contester for IPL – Kolkata Team.
Why the Bolloywood stars or the Corporates for that matter not showing interest in Hockey ? The answer is simple. There is no money involved like cricket nor they are willing to promote the fading game – National Game. Its atrocious on these big wigs for their unethical actions.
On moral ground, Mr Narendra Batra, Senior Vice President and Mr Joaquim Carvalho, Chief coach of Indian Hockey have accepted to resign from their post owing to poor performance of the team failing to qualify for the Beijing Olympics.
Will this suffice? No certainly not. Indian Hockey Federation will not be able to reinforce the game as they are under tremendous pressure from all dimensions and the body need to be revamped and Mr Gill need to resign from his post to uphold ethical values.
Like cricket, Hockey needs to be recognized and the game needs to be adopted by Corporate’s. On a moral, Patriotic interest, If Sharuk Khan take the lead , it would be a bighearted gesture he can do towards Indian National Game- HOCKEY.
