These are indeed very difficult times for our Hockey team. From the golden days of Major Dhyan Chand we are lost somewhere. No news is good news for Indian Hockey at the moment. But other reasons apart, while seeing the match and game of our players I observed the following;
1. That some of our players want to get rid of the ball as soon as they get it, as if it’s a hot potato and very difficult to handle or may be they are not able enough to dribble the ball to the other half.
2. That some set of players are always looking for the ball to come to them and they are least bothered if it’s going to the other team, because they don’t want to unnecessarily waste is energy.
< b> 3. That when reaching the goal post, some of our players tend to keep hold of the ball for more time, instead of passing it to unmarked player/s. May be, they are very much eager to place the goal in his name (without bothering about team). This results in snatching of the ball and the opportunity. One should keep in mind that, the strength of a chain is equal to the strength of the weakest link in it. Therefore, the kind of individualism resorted to harms the team prospects. This sort of individualism has been on the rise in Cricket too, but there the damage can be undone to some extent by rest of the players. But in hockey, the missed opportunity at the Goal can result in reverse attack and a goal against us within the next couple of minutes.
