Just about every morning, the sports page of the newspaper reads '' India suffers a humiliating defeat '' or the same stuff spiced up by other adjectives. Well anyone would wearily comment, '' Ya, Is that news?? I just read that a couple of days back.Guess the newspaper fella made a mistake”. Sorry, guess again. The Indian cricket team is doing what it’s best at - loosing.
Any Indian cricket buff (sadly, that includes me!!) would say'' Hey, we're a good team. We look good on paper, at least. But the truth is for all to see. Sure, the team looks photogenic. After all, starring in all the ads, the cricketers have learnt how to look good on camera!!
Scratching your head, trying to remember the last occasion when India actually won (Wo, that's a nutcracker!!) and once you'd have spotted an Indian victory, you'd ask '' What about that??'' For God's sake, do I need to tell you, we got lucky that time (After all, every dog does have his day). Or who knows, the match may have been booked. Guess, all's fair in love, war and CRICKET!!
Whenever, the words '' Indian Cricket team is a balanced side '' reach my ears, I'd be inclined to say, Sure, the Indian team is a classic example of role-reversals. The batsmen do the bowling, the bowlers bat better than the top order. What about the so-called good fielders? Well, they're just spectators who seem to have won some sorta contest and get an up-close look at the action. (You may say, they have got a VIP seat for themselves, watching the ball whiz past their hands like an awe-struck kid watching a UFO dash by). The Indian team could be best described as a team of stars and not a star team. What else could explain the fact that with match winning performers like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid on its side, the Indian team fails to notch up more victories.
OK,the Indian team is not all that bad. After all, it does manage to come back from the death a lot of times. Plenty of times, it does manage to do well (without any external force acting). Moreover, the Indian team is comprised of some of the best players the world of cricket has to offer. If all the players could gel together as a team, play for the nation and not their own motives plus stay clear of all controversies, who knows, we'd be singing songs in their praise instead of lamenting at their defeats.
The bottom line? Well, I’d recommend even this avatar of the Indian cricket team, as it does make a seemingly easy victory seem painstakingly difficult and achieve victory even in certain apparently impossible cases. (Watching a match involving India is definitely more exciting and unpredictable than even watching Alfred Hitchcock's suspense-filled movies). The Indian cricket team is a must watch if you wanna enjoy the thrills and the spills of cricket!!
