The cricketers in the Indian Team are idolised by most of the sports fans around India. Yet most of the cricketers, and the Indian team as a whole has disappointed their fans in this cricket-crazy nation. The main problem with the Indian Cricket team is the lack of consistency. Except for Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly very few of the other team members give a good performance regularly. If these two players fail then inevitably the team loses, on most occasions. The bowling department of the team is very weak. The team totally relies on its spinners to win matches if the batsmen fail to score a good total. It lacks a genuinely fast and aggressive bowler, although Zaheer Khan has shown some promise. The other fast bowlers have been very expensive in their spells and have also failed to pick-up wickets in the initial overs. The all-rounders have failed with their efforts and have rendered the middle order weak, due to their irresponsible attitude in most matches. We also do not have a good wicket-keeper, who can bail out the team through his batting, when required, in a crisis situation. The fitness level of all players demands a lot of work, on the part of the players and the team management. The fielding leaves a lot to be desired when compared with other teams like South Africa, Australia and Zimbabwe. The players tend to loose heart and give up very quickly when the team is down, which is reflected in their body language and results of tight-situation matches. Our overseas record is dismal, and continues to be the same in recent matches.
The Indian cricket team needs to work a lot in every department of the game if they have to produce better results in future. The players need to be groomed and trained better so that they can compete with the top cricketing teams and be counted amongst the best cricketing nations.
